3-Point Hitch Options for new stabilizers: JD 4005

I've had a 4005 for several years now, and its a great tractor, except for the stupid turnbuckle stabilizers on the lift arms. They have always backed themselves out while running the flail mower. The pins that go through the threaded rod that are supposed to prevent the turnbuckles from turning kept coming out, so I just stopped replacing them. This year, the problem is getting much worse. The left turnbuckle backed out so far a few days ago it almost came apart, and the front threaded rod was bent. The rod has been replaced ($50!!) but I want something different.

Apparently Mark Hodge gave up his business of making telescoping stabilizers. I should have gotten a pair from him when i first realized there was an issue. Has anyone else stepped into the void and started making a similar product? What are my options now?

I'd just add a lock nut that can be tightened when the desired length is set.

The lock nut idea did cross my mind, but I wonder how much of a pain it would be to fool with. If there is no other option, I guess I'll try it.

Depends on how often you change the lengths... I use an iMatch now and seldom have to mess with the lengths of the stabilizers.. wouldn't have to at all if I'd just switch the rototiller over to iMatch.

To me, the "pain" would be having it work loose and having to thread it back.

Do the stabilizers have a place to hook a bungee cord. If the do, just run a bungee cord between the 2 stabilizers.

I had the same problem on a 1070 JD when I first bought it. I use big hairpin style pins, as large as the holes will fit, which are about 3" long, and push them all the way in up to the U (takes some wiggling) and it solved the problem.
