Kubota R410

I know it isn't really a tractor, but... does anybody know anything about them? Good? Bad? Ugly? I've seen some have backhoes, some have 3pt hitches.

I see them at landscape supply yards... Cool machines. I've checked out the r420s up close and they appear to be very solid machines. I've also read construction guys praise them when using the backhoe (they come as a TLB also).

What would your intended uses be?

Use would be loader/backhoe. I just don't know enough about them. Trying to research before going to look, not seeing much out there.

There's one at a nearby garden center that always gets my attention.

I don't know what you'd call that kind of 'hoe that can shift from one side to the other, but for excavating, up against a foundation wall, I'll bet it's really slick.

They are a very solid machine. One drawback may be the loader bucket attaching mechanism, it's not like the newer machines that have the Bobcat style plate, so you can only use Kubota buckets or forks which are getting a little scarce. The next thing to look at would be the center pivot and how tight it is and whether it's been getting greased. That can be a couple thousand dollar repair. Other than that and how well it's been maintained they're a 10,000+ hour machine.

They are an awesome machine! I have an R510 that has given me very little problems or cost over ten or so years. I changed my coupler to a skid steer type with hydraulic operation. Rather cool, if you are changing non-hydraulic attachments.

Excellent Jap quality and sensible design!

No freakin Electronics!

Very easy on fuel!

A dealer once told me that if they had to rely on income from the service/repair of these units, they would go out of business! I believe that.

You also ride nice and high and can see your forks, if you have some, almost as good as a skid steer, but nicer to get in and out of and good all round visability.

Thanks Guys Well, they put me off looking at the unit until I got back from work (1 week), now they say there is an offer on the machine. Am not able to go look. I guess unless it falls through, I'm out of luck and still hunting. This looked like the machine for me, so I'm a bit irked.

Oh - i should mention - if anybody knows of similar machines/brands for me to use as search terms, please go ahead. The reliability is a big factor. So is hoe and loader.

I got the machine. Previous owner had hooked up the battery backwards and blown the fusible link. It's fixed. It seems to be poor starting for a 'bota. I'm wondering about the glows. It has very few hours on it (160) and while some of those hours were careless, it shows the lack of hours. It has the seeps and leaks you would expect from a barely used 25yo machine. I need to do all fluids, then start the little bits. I want to check the glows, check/flush the cooling system, then see if I can find the small electrical drain which is flattening the battery...
