Found these items when I was changing hydraulic fluid in my JD 2840. There was some metal shavings on the sump screen but not enough to fill a bottle cap. Fluid still looked pretty good also. Only thing that does not seam to work is putting the tractor in park and that has been that way for years.

Ummmm....yeah, I'd be investigating that. It MIGHT just be the failure that makes the tractor not go into park, but then again, it might be something more important.

I agree with PHPaul. Take them to your dealer and have them ID the pieces. That's what they are there for.

x3 -that don't look good

The left piece is an "Oetiker Style Double Ear (2 Ear) Hose Clamp" I have no idea what the rearmost piece might be. It's hard to tell on my computer but it appears to have two different colors on the top as if it had been broken off something. Might the right piece might be the tip off the parking pawl? Has your tractor's transmission ever been apart?

Now that is some debris! And to think there have been multi-page threads started by someone who was worried about a little bit of gray gunk in their fluid! We ought to bookmark this one for future reference when someone starts freaking out about nothing....

I'm not sure if the tractor has ever been apart. I think I am the 3rd owner of it but not sure. It had a little over 4,000 hours when I got it back in 2007.

There is only two items that came out of the transmission. The square above the items is a punched hole in the floor plate. Hopefully one of these days I can make it over to the dealer ship and show them the parts.

I was by the dealer the other day due to work. I did not have the parts with me but I did show the picture to a couple of the mechanics. They thought the round piece may go to the diff lock plunger. They where not sure on the other part. They said there is no hoses in the transmission to be clamped.
This weekend I tried out the diff lock and it seams to work. I guess I am going to just go with it.
