48 right now...high of 86 today. I have a number of chores today...top of the list is changing the oil/filter in the Z920 (maybe replace the blades too). I'd also like to change the break-in oil in the Gator (just over 60 hours on the Gator). After that...we'll see...

Changing blades is like a ritual for us every three weeks whether we need it or not. Keep two sets on hand at all times

62 cloudy heading to 83.

Had a nice kayak trip yesterday, after the second try. The deserted quiet spot we went to Thursday had been transformed when we returned yesterday (with paddles) to launch our kayaks...a local high school was having their senior class picnic...4 school buses parked, several trucks and trailers, sheriff cruiser, music...complete with several inflatable amusements, like slides, basketball hoops, etc. Several grills were smoking and kids having a blast on the edge of the lake with Frisbees, footballs, etc.

We unloaded our kayaks and gear down to the edge of the water, and returned to the bathrooms. I was waiting outside for my wife, watching the craziness of the party, when one of the chaperones approached from the cooking area..."can I help you!!?" Of course, here I am the gray haired old man, standing by the bathrooms, taking too much interest in a bunch of teenagers. Glad to see he was doing his job, and he was very nice once he learned what I was really doing, and not some kind of creep. Had a good chat, and turns out he had previously lived not too far from my house.

Once we had paddled around the point into a cove, couldn't even hear them. Had a nice quiet day.

What was cool was that hours later when we were packing up, it was also time for them to return to school...so the sheriff turns on his vehicle loud speaker and commands: "all high school kids...come out of the woods and return to the busses!"

66 out this AM, just came in from checking on the animals, pond and pool. Looks to be mid-80's today with lots of clouds. Guess I'll finish painting the last room today and go drink some chilly ones in the late afternoon by the pool. No gas for the mowers, so no grass cutting. Funny how that works.

Have a great w/e all. Be Safe!

47F. The low was 42F this morning. Heavy cloud cover moved in early enough last night to keep us out of the 30's. Yesterday was one of those days in the frost-free season that can't being counted as a growing day. Not much growth happens in the 60's and lows in the 40's.

Went out and split some firewood this morning but 45 minutes was about all my back wanted. Don't know why it is sore across the bottom of my back so much. It usually loosens up after sitting around in winter. Age? :D I just took two extra strength Tylenol. After taking Milos for a walk and giving the Tylenol time to work I will tackle some stone picking in the field.

Have a good one.

Good Morning. 1050, sunny, 89F with 49% humidity. Forecast high of 90F with 0% chance of rain today, and a low of 67F tonight. There are five days of rain in the forecast starting on Wednesday. Monday through Wednesday are good transplanting days, so I hope to plant a few more rows of pepper plants, the grapevines and blueberry bushes, plus any other fruit trees Margie buys tomorrow before the rain.

I got in half an hour filling waterline trenches and an hour picking green beans and hoeing this morning before work. I have a simple little wedding today, so should be a stress free work day.

Hope everyone has a good day,

Larro

52F this morning, headed for a high of 83F under sunny skies with light breezes all day. Wrap around moisture from that Arctic low brought a nice little shower right at sunset last night, and the result was a full but somewhat faint rainbow in the eastern sky. Barely enough rain to wet the patio, but we'll take what we can get.

Dave, last year I took two swings with the splitting maul and decided to buy a gas powered splitter. Still need an ibuprofen at the end of the day, but I get a whole lot of wood split ;)

Don, glad Whipper's OK. Hope the copperheads stick to themselves from here on out.

DS, that's probably the best sign of spring I've heard all week!

wngsprd, musta been quite a shock pulling into that parking lot. Glad you had a nice paddle anyway.

FELPinsInstalled.jpg FELTubeCrack.jpg

Not much time to work on the FEL lately, but did get a couple hours in yesterday afternoon. Was able to finish the pins, or at least get them turned and cut to length. I'll still need to cross drill and ream the holes for the retainers, which will be roll pins instead of bolts. This morning I'll cut off the other end of the stiffener tube, as the welds attaching it to the loader arms are badly cracked. Turns out it's not a tube at all, but a rolled flat on which Kubota left the seam wide open. That open joint was a natural stress raiser, and allowed a crack to start where it met the weld. The crack then ran down the toe of the weld and then out across the web of the loader arm. Curiously, there's an unwelded space where the tube meets the loader arm, and my guess is that the tube seam was supposed to be located there. That would have eliminated the stress raiser, but then the two ends of the weld would have taken on the job, which they seem to have done anyway.:banghead:

Have a great weekend everyone!
