52F this morning, headed for a high of 83F under sunny skies with light breezes all day. Wrap around moisture from that Arctic low brought a nice little shower right at sunset last night, and the result was a full but somewhat faint rainbow in the eastern sky. Barely enough rain to wet the patio, but we'll take what we can get.
Dave, last year I took two swings with the splitting maul and decided to buy a gas powered splitter. Still need an ibuprofen at the end of the day, but I get a whole lot of wood split
Don, glad Whipper's OK. Hope the copperheads stick to themselves from here on out.
DS, that's probably the best sign of spring I've heard all week!
wngsprd, musta been quite a shock pulling into that parking lot. Glad you had a nice paddle anyway.
Not much time to work on the FEL lately, but did get a couple hours in yesterday afternoon. Was able to finish the pins, or at least get them turned and cut to length. I'll still need to cross drill and ream the holes for the retainers, which will be roll pins instead of bolts. This morning I'll cut off the other end of the stiffener tube, as the welds attaching it to the loader arms are badly cracked. Turns out it's not a tube at all, but a rolled flat on which Kubota left the seam wide open. That open joint was a natural stress raiser, and allowed a crack to start where it met the weld. The crack then ran down the toe of the weld and then out across the web of the loader arm. Curiously, there's an unwelded space where the tube meets the loader arm, and my guess is that the tube seam was supposed to be located there. That would have eliminated the stress raiser, but then the two ends of the weld would have taken on the job, which they seem to have done anyway.:banghead:
Have a great weekend everyone!
