Found it! About 40 minutes from the property, but a bit off of HWY 2. Pretty cool natural pond.

That looks more like dreaded weed eater time.

I just assumed he was married. Hahaha.

Why am I laughing...my wife wouldn't have a clue how to start my weed eater OR mower for that matter :)

There is nothing like putting some headphones on and burning diesel in peace and quiet! And yes, married with 3 little ones.

Basically I'm thinking kinda along the lines of dave1949's suggestions:

Hardscape using the rocks - these can be used to create the oases dave spoke of, adding some greenery/vegetation/planting beds to add color and variation to native environment should you want to.

Is the front porch an area for gathering and relaxing ?

Since you have the water to support it, I'd consider adding a number of water features - probably smaller ponds, to avoid having cover the evaporation loss of a big body of water with a large surface area. Since you have a slope/grade they could be tied together (ie. running water) ... you also could even incorporate a cascading water fall into one or more of them, if you were so inclined:

Another thing to consider (perhaps in addition to the above) - since it appears you have no shortage of rocks ... and will do doubt end up with a bunch more if you any serious grading - is the use of dry creek beds to give the appearance or illusion of water (without any of the attendant evap loss you'd have with an actual water feature):

I'm a huge fan of low maintance. I'd say get some grass growing up close to the house. I wouldn't want a lot of trees, it seems like you have a good view that would be blocked.
