The POGO was a Vertical Take Off and Landing "airplane" It landed vertically on its tail..Quite a contraption. The "flying bedstead "was a British test vehicle to test vertical take of and landing and ducted thrust for the development of the very cool British aircraft called the Harrier.

It was one of those things that improved helped quality of life in American fleet boats, quite different than German "pig boats".

IIANM it was he training vehicle used by the astronauts training to fly the LEM. Very tricky, one of them crashed when the pilot 'lost it' and bailed off.

The Kleinschnidt's on board the American fleet boats of WWII were the fresh water distillation units. They were critical to keep the battery water topped up and have fresh water to drink and also important so that the crew could bathe. German submariners did not have fresh water to bathe with... Think about that...
