Which will bend less or be more rigid: 3/4" rebar or 3/8" black iron pipe?

The legs being flared out too far increases the tendency for the top bar to bend.

I've had problems bending 1/2" rebar with it snapping, so I didn't try to bend those legs too much and having it do the same; otherwise they would have been a little more vertical. If 3/4" rebar doesn't work, I may have to add a vertical rebar piece to each one, we'll see.

Definitely not one of my usual "way overkill" jobs. :(

ETA: thanks for the suggestions on the washers, I'll try that!

To prevent snapping you have to grind the ribbing off the rebar in the areas to be bent.

I'm not following you. Rebar is made for concrete consruction, its a malleable steel, you can generally bend it as tight as you want, tight 90s and it doesnt snap. 1/2" especially. If you bend it a few times in one location of course it will break.

On the target project, it looks to me like there will be a lot of friction between the rough rebar & the pipe "hinge". Which gets worse when the rebar curves while inside the straight pipe hinge - it binds up.

I can see you want to be able to take it apart & store easily, move & setup quick. But if you were to weld those Sq tube receivers like a "T" and poke them in the dirt vertical they don't add bending forces to the main crossbar. Or add a vertical support (like a tripod) on left & right to straighten it up.

Iv seen problems with a sharp bend. So has OP apparently. Grinding off the ribbing will alleviate it if you experience it.

I use chain and weld it to the target so it hangs with a forward tilt to minimize ricochets. Can use chain for the cross link if needed. Just need to have secure rnd frames.

Well, if they do, they're trespassing.

And stupid.

Well crap, learn something new every day!

I have never had such problems. I do heat it first.
