Who rides motorcycles?

I've got an '04 V-Strom 1000 and an '11 GSX-R750 at the moment. I started riding dirt when I was 12, but did no riding through my 20's. I started riding on the street when I was about 30. 95% of my riding is commuting to work with the occasional recreational ride thrown in when time allows. Previous street bikes include:

2002 FZ1
2008 Husqvarna SM610
1988 Honda NX650
2007 Triumph Speed Triple
2003 Yamaha R1
2001 Yamaha FZ1
2001 Honda Shadow 750

I have a VFR800 and and FJR1300 for the street and a Honda CRF250X for dirt. Wife and boys both ride dirt bikes as well. It's one of the things we love doing as a family.
Rode friends and family members' bikes as a kid, but never owned my own until my 30's. Can't believe I waited so long...

Don't feel bad. The last time I rode my SM510R, I was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, sandals, and a helmet, floating an 80 mph wheelie down 35W.

On the other hand, I had a plate on one of my bikes that advertised SQUID, and my track helmet noted I was a "serious squid." :thumbsup:

IMHO, the 610 was your funnest bike.

Heard a doozie yesterday. Guy on a bike supposedly 'cut off' a lady in her car. (which one's bigger? sheesh!) By the time I heard the relayed story the biker was a Navy Seal, and apparently the lady got even by following and bumping the bike ... with fatal results. Might makes right? :confused3:

Been doing the "Anti SMIDSY Maneuver" since 1985 but didn't know why it worked.

Been wearing a hi-viz jacket since 2007. "High Visibility" fabrics shift more light to the visible spectrum.

How does it do that?
Wavelength doubling from the IR ? Raman ? fluorescence? Phosphorescence? . How does the Hi Vis work?

Shifting wavelength is trivial if the desired result is the Infra Red, but "shifting" white light to the visible? Hmmmm?
It is true, that human photopic sensitivity is tuned to the green (think fire fly green). But getting a broad spectrum of light to "shift" to 545 nm is a bit of a reach. Perhaps the Hi -Vis works by suppression of the "Not Green"

I believe that statistics show "bright yellow" is the "safest" color to paint one's motorbike, Myself, I'm partial to Italian Red.

I am going to take the "weave" into my bag of "you need to drive for every cage operator on the road when riding" tricks.
