Out of Fuel and On Side of Hill

If you must squirt something into a diesel when you've run it out of fuel use diesel. Put some in a squirt bottle and you can help the engine stay running while the injector lines pump what ever air is in them out. It's the only way I can get my dozer started if I run it out of fuel. Happened twice. The first time I was trying to fill in a trench and one of the tracks slipped into it and it leaned too far over. The other time was when a stick knocked off the glass fuel bowl at the rear of the tractor and emptied the tank. The first time it took me days to get it started. Cracking lines to bleed them and charging the battery up over and over again. The second time I used a shot of diesel to start it and then kept it running by occasionally giving it a shot as it was starting to stall. It took a couple of minutes before the injectors were giving the engine enough fuel to stay running. The odd thing is my backhoe, both Case, is the easiest diesel I've ever had to start after running out of fuel. Just fill the tank and crank for 30 seconds and she'll fire up.

I ran a tractor out of fuel ( dang gauge said 1/3 tank). I poured in 5 more gallons. I was 20 miles from home with minimal tools, so I decided to try to start it with no bleeding. It must have been my luckily week because it turned over a few times and started.

On mine I can tell when it's about to run dry and I give it everything possible to get it pointed downhill.

The Kubota is cranked and running. Stepson had to follow the line all the way back to the tank, testing each spot to see if it was getting fuel. Finally got remainder of air from the line, and got it cranked.

And, the key has been taken away from the guy who ran it dry.

Good news!
