Just changed my oil yesterday---I have a 3520. Put 5 qrts in the tractor and the oil level is high on dipstick. Could the dipstick be wrong??
Let drain for 1/2 hour-45 min. Calls for 5.1 qrts. Ran the machine for 10 mins then checked. Same thing. any thoughts??

I would remove enough oil to get it back to full rather than over full. Once you do this, tell us how much over full it was.

5.1 quarts would be the total system capacity. It seems obvious that more an 0.1 quart remains in the system after draining. Without measuring what you drained out there is no easy way to determine how much fresh oil needs to be put back in. The method most of us use would be to fill it up with 4 quarts and then start checking the dipstick, add, wait, check, repeat. It's a pain but it's how I've had to do it on my 2720. Even then, it is very easy to overfill. On occasion I've had to use a small oil sucker to remove some excess oil. It made the process painless.

Questions:

Did you replace the oil filter?

Did you drain the oil on a level surface?

I suppose the dip stick could be wrong....as well as a misprint. My 3520 calls for 4.3L with a filter.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

What jgayman said. It's a pain in the arse but the 5.1 quarts is the 'wet up' capacity & you'll never drain the entire amount. As we say in Aus, "it's a trick for young players."

I think I mis-read this. I thought the OP was talking about the transmission oil. But obviously at 5 quarts it would be the ENGINE oil. Duh! It's the transmission oil that is difficult to get the level correct. Although I suspect the issue is the same in that you would never be able to add the full capacity back in.

Did you change the filter?

How did the dipstick measure before the oil change?
did you keep it on the full mark or just not check it and now that you put new oil into it its wrong
