You say you can't justify a diesel, and not arguing with you, but in my mind every point you make, actually points you to a diesel. I would really reconsider the thought. Not gonna get into a this vs that but mileage, towing numbers and at least here, fuel costs are all better. I have been paying $.50 less per gal for diesel than 87 octane gas. Maybe a newer, but used one?

If you still insist on gas only, I will pipe down and just lurk to see what ya get. :)

Good luck on your decision.

My brother in law just bought a 2013 2500 with the 6.0 and for some real time numbers for ya. He gets 13 combined, 15 hwy and 8-9 towing his 5th wheel which weighs about 9500lbs. Hope that helps. His is a nice truck, but I sure wouldn't hook a lot of weight behind it to tow for a long ways unless you have a lot of gas money.

It will be interesting to see how it holds up long term. When we travel together and are going up and down hills he flat cannot keep up and his transmission is constantly hunting for the right gear.

I have a '15 2500 I bought in March. Had an '07 F150. I drive 10 mi. one way to work and then back home. Go through about a quarter tank in 5 days if that's all I drive.
I'm getting @ 12 mpg., Ford got @17. I have a customer who just got the new style Ford 150 non Eco I think.
He just drove it to FL and said he got 26.5 mpg.. That's pretty good.
I would vote for the 2500 especially for a big trailer but just be prepared for poor gas mileage.

I'm not buying 26 mpg in a pickup unless he did 50 mph all the way to FL.

My 2012 Ecoboost average just north of 18 mpg, 11ish towing my 10,000# load, and 21 highway. It can get north of 23 if I drive 55 mph.

I don't know how the modern 1/2 ton trucks do towing 10k, but my old '06 2500 gasser always feels secure with a big tow on even with more tongue weight than is recommended without an equalizer hitch. I'd vote for the Chevy.

The EB tows 10,000 pounds fine. The trouble is the long term reliability of the timing chain.

Here is my truck towing my tractor.

I have a 2012 ram 2500 that gets 12-14 mpg. What size GN are you getting? IMO, a half ton is not a GN vehicle. The daily driving would lean me towards the half ton though.

I think it's entirely possible a retiree migrating to Florida would do 50mph the whole time, in preparation for driving even slower when they get there. Probably had the left blinker on the whole time too...

I still might consider a bumper pull 14k lbs capability but figure if I gotta get new trailer why not go GN.

Hadn't looked at diesel fuel prices lately, surprised to see it $0.10 less than unleaded for first time in a while. Wasn't a couple months ago it was $0.60 more expensive than unleaded.

The chev 2500 is an older generation port injected engine. The 2014 and later HD half ton with the tow package will haul just as much on less fuel and more power. With the Direct Injection 5.3L .
