I have owned a Stihl 034 and now have a couple of 036 sawss. Not a lot of use, but almost from new these saws lost all of their bar oil. I buy jug after jug and most of it ends up on a rag to go into the fire. I am so discouraged by this, because otherwise they appear to be a good saw.

The joke is, at least one of these saws came with a carry case which I have never been able to use, as I found the oil leaks less if the saw is placed on its side.

Am I the only one having this problem?

I generally use Husky oil.

I run them exclusively. When I'm done for the day I loosen the cap to break the vacuum then tighten it back. Never really had probs with excessive leaking

My saws are
660
362
361

I have an 024 and have to leave it on it's side or it leaks the bar oil out too. OK on the side though.

My old 041 was not too bad for leaking, but the new Husky I bought leaves big oily spots everywhere you set it down. I will have to try the loosen the cap trick and see if that helps.

The higher end Stihl saws have a screw adjustment for bar oil rate. I had Stihl shop increase flow a bit, recently.

You want your bar and bar end sprocket a little wet to help keep chain cool and therefore sharp.

My Stihl is an MS 261.

Isn't it a just an o-ring replacement to get the Stihl saws to stop leaking ?

Interesting none of my Stihl saws leak bar oil. Wonder why yours do as not a common problem from the Stihl saws that I have been around.

I've had a Stihl 032AVQ saw for about 35 years and it has always leaked bar oil as far back
as I can remember. The leak seems to be around the screw adjustment on the botton that
turns the bar oil flow on or off. Laying it on it's side does seem to stop the leakage.

I have two Stihl saws - an HT-101 pole pruner and a 30+ year old 031AV.

The HT-101 has had a problem with leaking oil from not too long after it was new. Took into the shop where I bought it and the service fellow said no oil leak after testing for several days but hey ... it needs a new carb !

Saw was running fine before it was taken in. Still leaks oil. Wouldn't trust these guys to touch anything I own, likelihood of future business from me: nil ...

The 031 AV has never had a problem with leaking oil until recently. Only happens when the saw is set on it's side (which you have to do to fill it) and oil appears to come out around back of the sprocket cover, near the air cleaner cover. Dunno what's up with that, but it doesn't appear to leak when it's setting upright. Oil feed is set to max.

I was given a brand new large Craftsman saw for Christmas and it would fill the plastic case with oil... it was so bad I paid a restocking fee just to get rid of it.

I carry a little Echo in my truck and never had a problem with leakage... really like that little say...

My two Stihl saws are pretty clean too... just not as clean as the Echo.
