What to cover my new farm sign with?

How are the 2 pieces held together - and can you get them apart without damaging either?
If you can get them apart, then you can reassemble them with a good, all weather adhesive/sealant.
Maybe try a marine epoxy, to avoid the problem chim describes.
I'd let that cure for a week or two, then hit it with some clear enamel, like Rustoleum makes, to finish the job?

Looks like he used staples.

I didn't give him a +22 page spec sheet. My bad.

I gotta live with what I got - for free - not gonna complain about it, just deal with it.

First thing tomorrow - well, after breakfast of course - I'm hitting the local hardware store and see what they recommend and have on hand.

Whatever you use make sure you test it on a hidden area first. I painted a desk and clear coated it with products my hardware store said were compatible. I have learned to like the cracked and crazed surface effect.

Use a brush to paint the black letters first, just do the best you can. Let that dry. Come back with a short nap roller to do the white, it should leave the cutout part all black since it is recessed slightly.

How big is the sign??? If it's not too big, I would look for a piece of clear Plexiglass and just cover the entire front of the sign. Then I would use some boards with a slot milled (the thickness of the sign with the plexiglass) in them to frame it up with. If the sign is too thick for that, then maybe just frame up the four sides of the sign with some boards of the same thickness. That would really protect it from the elements.

Use it for as long as you can and next time get one cut out with a laser. Maybe even stainless. It will be here millions of years from now.

Sounds like the endless thinking I do about my projects as well trying to make things perfect.
