The Great Grease Gun Coupler Showdown

Obviously the first thing that you need to do is get rid of that flexible hose. Those things make it so much harder to do any greasing. I have several grease guns and only one has a flexible hose on it. I've found that I only need it for a few fittings and it's just so much faster and easier using the solid tube.

John, I also have several DeWalt 18V tools. So I bought a DeWalt 18V Bare Tool Grease Gun. I think I paid $130. It has a 3ft hose. Should have bought one long ago. I had a pneumatic a few years ago that I lost in a fire. I like Rechargeable better. No hose to drag around. A battery will pump several tubes of grease.

Thanks Richard. I think I'll get the kit for the extra charger, battery and box to keep the inevitable mess separate from the other messes in my toolbox. From what I've read, the included XRP battery is compatible with the older tools, which is a plus. I found the kit for $204 shipped so it looks like a done deal.

Eddie, with all due respect, I don't own a solid tube grease gun, and have no use for one. :)

Explain to me how a flexible hose makes it "so much harder to do any greasing"?

John, if you found a rechargeable, 18V Dewalt grease gun with batteries and charger for $204 you definitely should go for that.

I mix/match the older 18V batteries/tools with the newer XRP models all the time. I definitely see the advantage of the XRP batteries as they will run longer.

I have 2 older 18V batteries and 6 XRP versions with 3 chargers.

I am doing well with my LNL coupler, but that new one sure looks good too. Richard let us know how it works out in the long run. There are two zerks on my tractor that the LNL is too much trouble to try to get on them with due to the size of the LnL so I made an adaptor to get to them from the side. If they had installed right angle zerks in the first place, the problem wold have been solved, then they used the British Straight pipe thread, making it a mail order proposition to get some, so I just made the adaptor which works well.. They only have to be greased every 50 hours anyway. Let us know how the long term usage of the coupler works out.

I am kinda with you on that, I find the flex easier. But whatever floats the boat.

My thought is that the flexible hose is better with a one handed grease gun such as pneumatic, rechargeable or pistol grip and the solid is better for the traditional handle on the side.

Yeah Bill, that might be right. I haven't owned a lever gun for over 20 years. I just counted the Zerks on my JD2210 while sitting here. It has 11 Zerks. 6 could be greased with a solid tube gun. 5 require a flex hose.

It takes three hands to use the flexible hose. If I understand the reason for this thread, it's to find a coupler that stays on the zirk fitting while you use two hands to pimp the grease gun. With a solid tube, you never have to fight the hose coming off while you pump the greese.

For years I thought you needed to have a flexible hose. Then one day I realized that I could get to 90 percent of my zirk fittings with the solid tube that came with the grease gun. All it took was doing it that way once to realize how much easier it is.

Just curious if such a device addresses those zerks that just spew grease until you find just the perfect angle. Otherwise I too, don't see the point.
