Who can afford a new truck anymore?

I have a 96 F150 that is super clean... only used by a retired guy to go fishing and bought it as a retirement gift to himself... 5spd, long bed super cab and 4wd.. and 120k original miles... put it on Craigslist for $4500 and silence.

Manual transmission is probably the reason. I would seriously look at it if it weren't for that. My wife can drive manual, but does not enjoy it. And I can drive them, too, but I'm spoiled and will take auto over manual if given a choice.

Manual transmissions are the best theft prevention device you can get. Too bad they are going away.

And if you've got the 7.3 you've got one that should run a LONG time.
One of the difficulties many of us face as consumers is the inability to charge the cost off on our taxes or as a business expense. The average business owner can charge his customers to pay for his truck and write it off on taxes, I imagine many farmers etc. here can write them off on their taxes. That effectively reduces the cost of the truck by twenty to thirty per cent.

I have bought trucks and wrote off the expense to our biz. The problem is, you still gotta do business. And it is still money out the door....:(

What put the final nail in the coffin of the manual tranny was the cellphone. Hard to shift and talk, much less text!!

Multi-tasking is often easier with automatic features. I suspect the automatic tranny allowed more drivers to flip the bird (usually done while accelerating) without interruption. And power steering allowed it while turning too.

But it was the "mooning" that was most liberated by not having to constantly go for the clutch.
