Along with the rear license plate (or did someone black it out?)...

Aaron Z

I blacked out the license plate and rear window sticker before posting.

Saw a unhitched trailer along the road today overloaded with 5 large logs and flat tires.

No pictures, but words for the wise... Fella I know brought a skid steer from Ohio to WV on an older flatbed trailer. Still had original tires. One of the tires had a flat on the way down. Ran the rest of the way here on the spare and replaced it once he got to WV. Did what they were doing here, Sunday night he headed back to Ohio. He made it about an hour away, had a flat and put on the spare. He made it another half hour and the spare PLUS another tire went out at the same time...

Moral of the story: when a trailer tire goes bad, replace them all otherwise you may spend the night in your pickup truck along the road waiting on Monday morning to arrive...

Amen bro.
My mining claim is 20 miles in on logging trails that don't get any repairs when there isn't a timber harvest active.

I bought a used tent trailer that threw a chunk of tread on the way home from the dealer but I made it home. I put the tires from another trailer on it, age unknown. On the way up to the claim I had a hunch so stopped and bought an 8-ply 5.70-8 for a second spare, 'just in case'.

Yup. I arrived at camp and discovered one tire had a scary bulge and leaking air. Rope-type tire plug couldn't stop the air. I mounted the new HD tire. On the way back out to the highway in the dark I discovered the opposite tire was not only gone, its rim was ground down to unrepairable. I mounted the last spare, still 50 miles from anywhere that sells trailer tires during business hours and this was Sunday night.

The tent trailer's original spare threw a chunk of tread after a few miles on the highway.

I made it home, but slow and bumpy with a quarter of the tread missing. I was sure that bumping up and down from the remaining tread to the naked plies would soon destroy the tire but it made it 110 miles home in that condition.

After that I put new tires on both trailers and kept the HD 5.70-8 as a spare that went along with any highway use. I still carry it as a 'compact spare' for my utility trailer which has 12 inch tires of similar weight rating. It works and got me home once, but gotta admit it looks funny opposite a 12 inch tire.

We found this jerk today. He was towing rig was fine but he was an A hole. He backed his boat down the ramp about 18" inches over the line, then he proceed to wash his boat. He unloaded his boat washing supplies, kids, dog, and all the family shoes on the other side of the ramp. After waiting for several minutes we asked him to get his kids off the ramp so we could load our boat. His reply was " They have enough sense to get out of the way". image-2844387537.jpg

Ah, the joys of a public ramp...

Seems like public boat ramps bring out the worst behavior in people. When I used to launch from a trailer, I always wanted to get in and out quickly and with minimal impact on everyone else. Most people are like that. But some monopolize the ramp and it can be really obnoxious.

Agreed, but the entertainment value is there. Pick a popular launch day like opening day of boating, shrimping, crabbing, whatever... and bring a buddy, a couple lawn chairs, a cooler with a few beverages, pick a good viewing spot... relax and enjoy the show!

I've actually done that!
