Since King Kutter will not answer inquires, can anyone suggest what Series PTO shaft is standard on King Kutter's 5" tiller? The tractor end of my PTO slid off while it was being transported on a trailer. KK wants $343.00 for a complete PTO and I want to buy yokes, cross bearings and tube to make a new one of what is needed.

I use a series 4 with a carefully adjusted slip clutch.

Since it's just the tractor end that went walkabout, I think your plan to replace the individual parts sounds like a good one. Don't forget to add the safety shielding/guards into the cost roll-up for parts. It may end up being more than a complete PTO assembly.

If you buy a whole replacement shaft assembly from a source other than KK, be careful to match the outside diameter of the clutch assembly to the space available on the tiller. There's a section of 2x2", just in front and below the gearbox, that limits how big a diameter will fit. Measure what you have and find out what is being sold before you buy.

X2 on the used option. Try to find a Tractor junk yard. Complete unit will be cheaper than build your own.

If you measure the shaft you should be able to match it up with replacement parts, but as suggested you may be able to buy an entire new assembly for less (depends). The Ebay seller is good, and they also sell on Amazon with similar prices (worth checking both).

If you need just parts, Agri Supply tends to have about the best prices around.

I suggest the OP get on craigslist and use the search function to see if you can locate the end you need, or a complete used shaft. If you find something that may work, and you want to go look at it, be sure to take the end you have left (on the rototiller) with you and check the fit before you buy it.
Otherwise, you may wind up having to buy all new shaft, or parts pieces to make up what you need.

Tractor Supply also sells just the tractor half of the PTO shaft. I have no idea which one you need, but here's an example:

Weasler PTO Drive Shaft with 3/4 in. x 7/8 in. Shafting | TractorSupply

I doubt you could buy the individual parts cheaper than this.

It's hard to tell for sure, since there is no picture of the end of that shaft included, but I don't think that particular shaft will mate up. It looks to have the square tube end, which I think is what the 3/4" x 7/8" stands for. If the OP's PTO shaft is like the one on my KK II rototiller, it is the walterscheid style that looks like a triangle from the end.

On the manual for the King kutter tiller I posted, on page 30 it has a break down of the pto shaft and all of the part numbers and names of the parts. Seems like you might find the stuff on line that you are looking for.
