Agreed, but the entertainment value is there. Pick a popular launch day like opening day of boating, shrimping, crabbing, whatever... and bring a buddy, a couple lawn chairs, a cooler with a few beverages, pick a good viewing spot... relax and enjoy the show!

It can be better than fireworks on the Fourth of July! :firecracker:

Re the S10, I always wondered what would happen in that situation if the tilgate latches let go... I bet the springs left town long ago.
Jim

I wonder what would happen if the bolts holding the tool box in place let go??? It just bothers me that other people have so little regard for the safety and well being of other people on the road. If any of that stuff came loose or flew out of the truck at highway speed, another driver/passenger could be seriously injured, or worse, or it could cause a big wreck with more bodily harm. This guy driving the S10 should have been thrown in jail for even thinking that this was somehow ok.

Seems like public boat ramps bring out the worst behavior in people. When I used to launch from a trailer, I always wanted to get in and out quickly and with minimal impact on everyone else. Most people are like that. But some monopolize the ramp and it can be really obnoxious.

Also agree.

For example: a boat ramp on a small river near me. Muddy banks, a single-width concrete boat ramp with maybe 10 feet of rip rap on either side. Fisherman stand on the rip rap (rather than the mud) on both sides of the ramp so that one has no place to go with the boat after launching or before retrieving, unless one "beaches" the boat on the ramp, which delays the next guy wanting to launch.

Groups of people with one jet ski come down; one person at a time rides the jet ski back in forth in front of the ramp (creating a wake and restricting water access to the ramp) while the others in the group stand on the ramp (rather than in the mud) watching, and blocking the ramp.

ah yes the boat ramps
saw a guy with a 32 ft. performance boat with twin screws coming up the ramp after a day on the lake
gets it out of the water and starts to give the truck some gas
about the time the back of the boat is maybe 15 ft out of the water his winch strap breaks and the boat comes off the trailer and hits the ramp and goes sideways down the ramp another 5 ft and comes to a stop
nothing like having a 120k boat with 2 messed up outdrives laying on its side sideways on the ramp
looking at the trailer it was a cheap roller trailer and the guy didn't have a suicide chain in case his winch strap broke
spend money like that on a boat just to go the cheap route on his trailer :mur:

The boat ramp is open year round, so no opening day. The best days to watch are Memorial Day, and the 4th of July. I have never purposely went to watch. Waiting 10-15 minutes to to launch our boat is all the stupid we can stand in one day.

Yeah our boat ramps are open year around too, but we actually have an 'official' opening day of boating (May 2nd this year), opening day of crabbing, opening day of shrimping, etc. Those days... as well as the start of holiday weekends are notorious for goof balls coming out of the woodwork.

Who needs tiedowns?

Wish I had a pic of what I saw in town a few weeks ago. A video would be better. Guy had a lawn mower sideways at the front of his trailer. A small tractor behind it with a belly mower. Only had one strap across the tractor over the floor pan. At every red light we caught, the tractor would ease forward mashing the lawn mower. It would ease back when he took off, so it could crunch the mower again at the next red light.

Bet he won't make that mistake again!

Not sure how far this garage traveled before it was pulled over. I was heading home from church and saw this about noon today. Its still sitting there tonight.

Yesterday saw an SUV with probably a short bed pickup canopy on the roof, held down by what looked like a loop of twine at each corner. 40mph speed area. Too fast passing by to get a camera.
