Is there a way to store RoundUp after it is mixed with water? I would like use part of a tank and leave the unused portion in the sprayer for future use. Every time I try it gets gel type lumps that plug up the strainer and tips. Is there another brand of vegetation killer that can be stored after mixing? Thanks

Hmm, I have left roundup mixed for weeks at a time with no problems. Are you mixing in a surfactant, or does your bottled roundup concentrate already have a surfactant? That might be the issue, not the roundup itself.

larger spray rigs normally have some sort of "agitation" setup.. basiclly it sucks fluid from tank, and then pumps it right back into the tank to mix it all up.

pending on spray rig you have, you could possibly easily DIY an agitation setup.

they make a rubber "bulkhead" they give it a special term / name that. i do not remember right off. ya drill a hole through the plastic container, that is a little smaller than the bulkhead, and then shove a pvc pipe in. (with some dish soap or like) and the pipe cause the rubber bulkhead to expand and squish into the hole ya drilled to create a nice water tight seal. nice thing about the rubber bulkhead is it allows you to get a bulkhead through round containers, were there really is no flat space, to get a regular bulkhead to work and get a good seal.

a DIY spray bar = a pvc pipe. with some small size holes drilled in it. kinda mimics a lawn sprinkler, but not as small of holes or as many of holes. you most likely will want 2 rows of small holes. a "drill press" and some sort of make shift "V notch" in say a 2x4. to hold pipe as ya drill the holes.

for above spray bar. you most likely will need to drill 2 holes in your tank, and have 2 of the rubber bulkheads. and push a pipe all the way through container. getting the "spray bar holes" some place inside your tank. add a end cap to one end of this pvc pipe. and connect a hose and valve to other end. and hook into current plumbing coming off the pump.

if you place the spray bar correctly in tank, you can use it, to help wash out the tank / flush out the tank. if you are wanting to clean it out and use a different chemical. beyond simple agitation / mixing of the water/chemicals.

==============
pending on type of pump you have, you might be able to temporarily remove the pre-filter. while you mix water/chemicals via agitation setup.

Gelling of Roundup (glyphosate) mixes while in storage has been discussed in several previous threads on TBN.

I won't say it's a consensus opinion, but some think gelling is due to water chemistry. Monsanto sells Roundup premixed with water, and I have never heard of a problem with the premixes.

I routinely leave glyphosate in my sprayer for weeks at a time.

The sprayer is a 40 gallon 60psi from TSC that rides in the back of my UTV. I added a 50' recoiling line. I've never had a problem with this setup.

I mix a quart bottle of RU when the last one gets low - used for spot spraying thistle and morning glory. They will last me 2 years or more. Never had a jelling problem.

Not sure what you should put it in, but I don't think it really mattes as long as you get it out of the sprayer. Then put a few quarts of water into the tank and spray it out. If you don't spray water through it, you will get build up and eventually a clogged sprayer.

I have not had problems over the course of a few weeks, but a few months I'll get globs clogging the sprayer. Perhaps riding it around on the UTV shakes it up.

That's the only sure cure I think.

Just like running chainsaws and mowers, run them empty when using gas with ethanol.

I tried to keep mixed unused Roundup in my sprayer and the results were not good. I mix what I need and use it all up letting the tank air dry.

I've saved mixed RU and it gets "clumps". Now I just mix what I need and use it all.
