Correction noted. Loved that car and really missed it. Too much fun blowing the doors off a "Muscle Car" with two car seats in the back. Chris
Yeah, nothing stays with my 335d, 425 foot pounds of torque at 1700rpm is sweet, 60mph comes up around 5 seconds, the second 60mph come even quicker, plus I've seen 44mpg. Spectacular. HS

Never drove a D. The 335i we had would do 0 to 60 in the mid 4 seconds and a quarter in the mid 12's. Unbelievable car.

Actually, for a proper bond, depending on the paint system, the same etching process, or a similar one, is specified for steel, or aluminum parts.
I may be missing something but I think old pilgrim was talking about the old days when finishing/painting aluminum wasn't fully developed. Now a days, we know better how to apply chemical conversion coatings, etc. to many metals such as aluminum, etc. to 'finish' coat them as good as steel.

Yep I am seeing a thread where it started as a funny situation but thin skinned Ford folks got hot an bothered , and but once again only the posts that link to negative reviews of Fords get deleted.......and the brand worshippers that think their brand did not take tax money get a free pass to continue with missinformation ................what I saw was a funny GM ad , a type of ad that brand marketing folks have been doing for decades, quite frankly some folks need to get a sense of humour!

For the record, all posts that were removed were due to the comments that came with the links, not the links themselves. Feel free to post links to any articles both positive and negative about the issue, discuss it as much as you like.... Just leave out the disparaging remarks toward other members that several folks in this thread have been throwing at each other.

Some posts in some treads get removed when there isn't a comment about other members and the post is purely factual, neither negative or positive towards the subject matter.

Not sure where I lost you.

He said:"Paint didn't stick as well to the aluminum as steel without an etching process, which was another cost".

I was pointed out, that BOTH actually should be etched, so there would not actually be an additional cost.

Chemicals were generally used to etch metals on antiques before they painted them.

Model T's were washed with phosphoric acid. The same product can be used to etch aluminum. It is effective, and is still used by some today.

The fact that there are more options now, is true. But, not relevant.

Not sure what you mean by, "Finish coat them as good as steel".

You don't see all the posts that are removed. Some have quotes from others that contain the comments, so they all go. And sometimes when several members get into a pissing match, all of their posts are removed because its just too much work to selectively prune everything. Now lets get back to the original discussion.

I wouldn't mess with a new Charger Hellcat... capable of 204 mph, now the fastest 4 door sedan available- with 11 second quarter mile times and 707 HP

But, at $65,000+ they aren't exactly giving them away either
