garage or outside

I try to keep everything inside, even scrap and junk, because I don't like the looks of stuff sitting outside. (I will admit to not being 100% successful.) If you have to leave stuff outside, try to get some kind of shelter overhead, to protect from rain and sun. However, don't go the tarp route on equipment. As noted above it can attract critters and trap moisture.

My 273 new Holland bailer only had baled 840 bales when I bought it. and it was in a shed for many years covered with a tarp. and everyplace the tarp was it was rusty. My hoard pretty much covers up three acres. it would require a big building to hold it all. Im actually making progress. ive sold some things and pretty much quit bringing more in. A couple of those big chicken grower houses would be a great place to store stuff.

I keep mostly everything in my shed. I do keep my utility trailer and hay rake under a 15 foot lean-to.

I, like many on here like my stuff covered and out of the weather. I have a New Holland haybine that is sitting outside now because it won't fit through the door on my garage. That problem will be solved later this year when I have a new barn built that will hold everything I have.

I keep my tractor and chipper in stalls in my carport. UV is a killer on tractor tires and the chipper has moving parts. The remainder of my implements - plow, disk, land plane, FEL bucket, etc etc are all outside - each on its own pallet. I would like to keep everything inside but - I have no big shed. I've tried putting tarps over the outside implements but it soon becomes a PITA. The wind blows the tarps around and the covered space seems to attract unwanted rodents.

I had one problem with rodents & vehicle wiring many, many years ago. The best solution to rodents is a yard full of barn cats.

I have ALL of my equipment in a barn that is not in the best shape but it keeps the rain and sun off of the equipment, It does not make sense to me to buy tractors and related equipment at todays prices and keep them outside. I went to a local pole building builder today and have them working up a bid on a 24 x 24 building with an 8' shed on one side. It will be for the tractor and all of the equipment and I hope a little extra room for???

You need to double that size if you now think it is adequate, it wont be in a few years. I built my shop 30x30 with 12 foot wide wings on each side and within 2 years I was adding on another wing on back to store boat and mowers. The original holds my 2 tractors (only had one when built), truck, and car and now my Goldwing motorcycle but still leaves me some room to have my work table. I had to add a 30x14 on back to keep the 2 ZTR mowers and my boat. NOW, I need a 18x40x12H to store my motorhome. I am running out of places to put a building with easy to run power to it.

a mix and match. i would prefer inside for everything, but 1 tractor i do not have a tall enough shed to get it into. there are a few implements disc harrow, 2 bottom plow, drag harrow, rotatory cutter. that stay outside on concrete. it is all metal for most part, and they weight to much for 2 stronger folks to lift up and toss onto a trailer to steel.

smaller tractor, and non heavy items get stored in shed.

i refuse to cover anything with a tarp. tarps = breeding ground for birds and mice. (( tried a couple times, and each time ugly results )) better off if i leave everything open. mice want warm dark places, and away from the wind. and i will not provide them a place to nest.

anything outside is on concrete and/or at bare min a rock style driveway area, with stuff on pallets. trying to dig stuff up out of the mud and weeds and getting things connected no thank you!! hence either concrete or the bare min rock style drive way and placed on pallets.

That is just the tractor and equipment shed. I am also pricing a 30 x 40 shop - storage - man cave to be built 30 yards away.

You see its like a disease - once it gets hold - it spreads like wildfire. I was going to have a 24 x 32 shed built until I saw what happened to the neighbor. He built a 40 x 50 shed and within three years it was overflowing and he built yet another.
