Anyone have experience with PVC Roofing

Looking for any thoughts or comments on doing a PVC roofing system on a nearly flat roof home in Los Angeles?

I am pretty well versed on the product, its ups and downs but wondering if anyone on this group has first hand experience with the product.

My only experience with with motor homes. It works!!!!! It's also expensive and it's super heavy to handle. I couldn't imagine doing a whole building with it, but in theory, if you glue your seams properly, seal around your vents and whatever else goes through the roof, it should be the last roof you ever install.

Basically what I have heard Eddie, and on top of it for us So Cal people it retains no heat and reflects most of it off. Glueing is not used but welding is (seams are heat pressed together. But I have also heard over the long haul there is some shrinkage. I think to a house or a motorhome it is not an issue, but when you do a roof of a costco it tends to be an issue.

I installed white Tremco roofing membrane when building modular buildings and guard shacks many years ago (probably did 20-30% of the buildings with Tremco, since it was an optional upgrade) and liked it a lot. Need to be careful not to cut or nick the material while working, so it's not for clumsy oafs, but otherwise it's great. Never ever heard of issues with those roofs.

We would apply glue on the roof with a roller, unroll the Tremco sheet in place, and then go over the top with a lightly weighted roller to press down. Seams got some special sealant/heating, nothing complex. We were putting it right on top of plywood sheathing.

I have no idea of the cost, since I was just a dumb carpenter at the time, but got the impression it was quite a bit more expensive. But it lasts so much longer than other materials, I suspect it pays off.

I put a pvc roof on our beach house on the Oregon coast. It was welded at the seams, and warranteed against defects for 15 years. Over the years it has had numerous large shore pine limbs fall on it, and a whole bunch of Oregon wind and rain pounding on it. I was up on it sweeping off the pine needles last week and it looks as good as new, never have had any problems with it. I think it is going to have a pretty long life span, probably as long as the composition roofs in the area.

PVC is for flat or low sloped roof. Our house is 1:12 best case.

Yes, considered metal, but first they said no as it was low sloped, second was down here it is really expensive. Finally you can kiss cell signal away.

thats why i asked is it only for flat roofs.

From some description i was envisoining this white PVC on houses with a pitched roof. Esp the mention of a beach house.

I think what I saw being installed on a Mexican restaurant was plastic or fiberglass. It looked like clay tile but it was in large sections of about 2-3 feet across by one tile deep and from the way the guys were handling it with one hand, it was light weight. I only saw it from across the street but when in place is looked exactly like clay tile.
