Lights that are too bright?

I honestly believe they put people at risk of being hurt or killed. Also think it is irresponsible for LE to have all of them on at once.

I am thinking a reflective vest and a flashlight should offer enough protection along the roadways. That should solve the bright light issue, what do ya think? Those darn irresponsible police officers, would you want their job? Not me,you could give me enough money to be a police officer this day in age..

Airline pilots whine when a laser hits their windshield and I can't see much difference between that and these show off super bright lights. Both will blind you temporarily in the night time.

Most of the upper end, high power lightbars have a low output mode for nighttime. Its up to the officer (plow driver, ambulance etc) to select it over the other power modes. Sounds like officers in some areas are selecting daytime power for night either "just because" or they feel, incorrectly, that maximum brightness increases safety when I remember reading reports that it is exactly the opposite. The dazzle effect at night is very strong with these high power, high speed flashers, arguably causing more risk to the officers.

Most RCMP here seem to select the correct power setting for nighttime, thankfully.

Modern lightbars and controllers are pretty computerized, youd think it would be easy for them to add a photocell to determine ambient light level and adjust output accordingly, unless running max power at night is SOP for some departments which is a bad idea IMHO.

I go home when the first street light comes on and have no problem with bright lights.

When your life depends on these lights, you betcha I want them as bright and flashing as ridiculously as possible. Many of you stated that you had to slow down or stop to be able to see anything, well thats the point!

Back in the spring, a storm blew a tree down in the road. A cop had stopped in front of it with all his lights on, pointing toward me -- spotlight, headlights on bright, and overheads all beaming over the top of the tree trunk and straight at me. It was 10:00pm and still raining, so it was basically impossible to see anything besides those lights. I rolled up at 5-10 mph and ALMOST hit the dang tree because I couldn't see it. I could have seen it way easier with my headlights if he had less lights on. I rolled down my window and told him his lights were too bright and doing more harm than good, but he just kinda chuckled and didn't change a thing. He really had no idea how how impossible it was to see anything.

There is absolutely no reason those lights need to be that bright.

This comment shows a definite lack of knowledge. The complaint is that the lights are so bright that you can't see anything. Basically the bright lights have defeated the purpose of having lights.
