Thanks a ton for the link Copperhead. It is an eye opener for sure. No need to feel dirty buying a good Group 3 with s healthy add pack now.

Nope. No way. I have had great results over the last few years with full synthetics that are about 75% Group III and 25% Group IV. Very reasonable pricing and stellar results. And as the article stated, this is all going to change, and has already started. Shell is really cranking up it's Gas To Liquid (GTL) production, and if you take the time to look on shelves at the stores, virtually all of Shell's synthetics are natural gas to liquid products that, according to the article, are considered "super" Group III synthetics. We have so many excellent choices that advanced technology is giving us. Wish we had the quality of oils we have today back in the 60's and 70's.

No way would I even run some Group III synthetics .. Group 111 super tech isn't even close to a group IV synthetic.. It all depends on the Group III oil.. Super tech is blended to be a cheap synthetic

1 reason Amsoil OE motor oil is cheaper than the signature series oil, because OE oil has 7.9 TBN.. The signature series oil has 12.6 TBN..

Again Copperhead, thanks,

You have opened my eyes as well. I will definetly look out for future "super" group III syn's.

I came from the mid 70's when I first learned about synthetics and became an instant believer as well as a user. I did not keep up with the advances and what I thought I knew was incomplete. I'm feel sure now that Castrol 5W50 Syntech, now called "Edge" is a fine oil that I put in the trans. What I don't know is; if it's a mix of III and IV's. I wouldn't even know how to evaluated the oil based on anything I could look up or even know where to look. I'm basing my faith on the fact that Castrol is a recognized manufacturer and have come out with something to be its latest and greatest line of oils. You've given me more reason to have trust in modern synthetic packages, so to speak.

However, I'm sure Amsoil isn't going to sit back and allow being beaten to the "Super". Do we even know if their "Signature" grade comes close to being a "Super" already?

I agree, cheapest for a reason!

I don't nor will I ever shop at Walmart, so no chance of ever even looking at super tech!

I am not running extended intervals, dont you think top tier Amsoil would be a waste?

Would multiple additive packs by why T6 is such a great universal oil? It does an excellent job at cleaning too.

bwa ha ha. you know you can run low vis hyguard in the front diff of your Polaris, right? it exceeds spec. Check with JD, the Gators use the same front diff. Nice tractor by the way. Had an x500 loaner a few years bavk, did a nice job.

if I could run thicker, id go T6 5W40, but VVT and 40W dont get along.

Just put some good Polaris oil in your truck.LOL

I guess what ever floats your boat... If you have an expensive truck, why skimp on oil ?? This is something I can't understand.. People pay big $$ for vehicles, yet, they refuse to pay for premium oil go go in the engine. There is a reason some oil cost $2.50 per qt and some cost $8.00 per qt.. You usually have to pay for quality

And on a Polaris ATV website, there are tons of people that spent 6/14 thousand bucks on a new toy, but want oil filters that only cost 4 bucks.
That just kills me LOLOLOLOLOL
And Will is right in the thick of all the oil threads ;)
