Thanks cat ... We studied a number of placements on the property for our home. We even went out one night about 10:30 pm to see what lights might be visible in the surrounding area. There is a cellular tower about a mile away and it has a red flashing light that is just visible above our tree line ... ughhh. In the summer it may stay hidden but winter time it will be our friend :) We finally settled on our spot .... of course it was the farthest possible point to run water, electric and driveway - lol.

Speaking of the driveway - - - I should get the bill sometime this week. I'm holding my breath.

This will be the view from the front/north windows. We own 30 acres behind the left tree line and 40 acres behind the right tree line. Nice and private :)

Man am I jealous. Sometimes I think of making the big move to a wetter climate. I was born and raised in Utah, but it sure is dry here. I think you have a great place.

That's a long run. We ran 5000' to our home. What are you using for water line?

Pretty view, and that is a good chunk of acreage -- ought to be nice and quiet and private.

Good question. I know we don't want a million connections in the water run, which will be about 1200' from our well. I'm planning on 1 1/2" or 2" but not sure what I'll be using - yet.

The basement dig continues. It took a little longer than expected because of all the rock - clearly visible in the photos. It broke out alright with the dozer but made things a slow go. The good news - after a 6" rain, the basement pit held zero water. When completed, this will be approximately 30' x 40' and 11' in depth. The hole is "over dug" a bit to provide working space for setting the walls, and will be back-filled after the pour.

If your soil is that rocky (like the basement hole) for the well line, you might consider putting some sand in the bottom of the trench, lay the pipe, cover with sand for 6" or so before back filling with what came out of the trench.

Another alternative would be one those rock sifters, like a Rock Hound Landscape Rake for example: RockHound Attachments - Skid Steer Flail Mowers, Excavator Mower, Landscape Rakes There are other brands too. Maybe you can rent one in your area.

Line size really depends on what all you are going to use the water for. If you need a sprinkler system or going to water any fields etc I would go with the 2" line. Otherwise 1 1/2" is fine. From the rocks I am guessing burrowing rodents are not a problem? If you do have these pesky little rodents I would use a metal line. (copper, galvanized pipe) Poly ethylene is a good choice if rodents are not a problem and comes in very long rolls. (less joints) Certainly follow Dave's advice for back filling.
The line from my well to the house is 2". When I ran lines to my outbuildings I only used 1", wish I would have just stayed with 2" for everything. If the cost is not much difference I would use 2" everywhere.

It does look like you are moving right along, keep us posted on progress and good luck.

I'm with you on that acreage. I would almost kill for that much land. But I need mountains around me for direction. Every time I'm in flat country the sun always comes up in a different place. I never know where north is. However, I would wonder around in circles for that much land.

I'll trade you 10 acres for one of your mountains
