Now the other dealer is an hour plus south so it's not very convenient to go to them for service. .

Maybe it is just me, but an hour drive to get service is really not that bad if you consider that it likely takes half that time just to get loaded and properly chained down and ready to travel. My closest tractor dealer of any brand is at least 25 miles away. Considering that perhaps you never will need any service work done at the dealer (unless you don't do any service work yourself), I wouldn't even consider the distance to the dealer in the deal. GO for the best price if the dealer giving the price is stable and has a competent shop. Also consider if the selling dealer has a mobile service truck that he can come to you with for minor issues. That is a big plus that lots of dealer wont even consider.

So I got a call from the second dealer just checking to make sure I got his quote and see if I had any questions. I really like his attitude, no sales pressure and very appreciative for the chance to have my business. Told him I was still thinking about it.

Called the first dealer left him a message. Didn't hear back. Called back around 4 and got a hold of him and told him the 2 other quotes I had gotten and if there is anything he can do. Just flat out NO! Our prices are set by Kubota and we try to make for it with our service blah, blah, blah. No, we aren't the cheapest game in town but take it or leave it.

Basically makes it sound as though they won't service the tractor under warranty if I don't buy it from them. Is that how it is in the tractor industry? What if I had bought it and moved here, would they still have the same attitude? Now the other dealer is an hour plus south so it's not very convenient to go to them for service. My wife works for Ford and it's like them saying we won't work on your truck because you bought it from another dealer even though we are and authorized facility.

So, called the second dealer back and told him the other lower quote and asked if he had any room or if that's his bottom line. Said his sales manager was out, it was about 4:45 on a friday, and he would have to ask on Mon and get back. Bottom line is that he's $1400 less for the same package as dealer 1 and even with the 48" box scraper he is still about $750 less than dealer 1.

So is that how tractor dealers work or is this guy just being an a$$h@le? At this point I don't want to deal with the local guy at all, but will wind up having to get parts and fluids from them simply due to logistics.

Will keep posted on what happens on Mon.

I would go with the best price if it were me. As for warranty work, I would not sweat it. A kubota dealer will fix it even if you didnt get it from them and they dont need to know where it came from. And if they refuse, call the head office and tell them the issue. Sounds to me as if the one that wont budge thinks you dont have a choice and will buy from him either way. Its also not just the tractor business, buy a Harley and let me know how that works out. They think their crap dont stink. I did the same as you when I bought my bike...one dealer to the next looking for the best deal I could get. I even had one tell me to go buy it from the other dealer and he didnt care and was not budging on the price (supply and demand). Well needless to say, the boss of the salesman did care after I told him the deal and how rude his salesman was......salesman was fired for this issue that day for almost loosing a sale over a few hundred, and they did beat the price and threw in a few goodies to boot. So its not just tractors.....

I wouldn't worry about the distance to the helpful dealer either. Since it's a BX25 we are talking about, it would be pretty easy to trailer it on any 14 foot or longer dual axle trailer with brakes.

plus don't forget if it is a tractor issue you can drop the backhoe and front loader and take it on a landscape type of trailer as the weight is low and it won't be very long....

The odds of something going wrong is such a low percentage bet that I would not even consider it. I've owned Kubotas for around 25 years and never had a serious issue. Nor have I heard of anyone with a problem.

So just a quick update. Called dealer 2 back and told him the quote from dealer 3 and they matched it without question! The salesman was great to deal with and on top of everything the whole time. Took delivery yesterday and am very happy and excited!
