We are similar. Except CLOSED all the time. And much more "rural" looking! :) Programmed in keypad codes for anyone that we want to have access, regular garage door opener remotes for our vehicles. And we added buried-sensor MURS driveway alarms so we know whenever anyone comes through, day or night. That's what the little beam antenna is for. All solar. Opener is Apollo (about 2000 trouble-free cycles so far). Gate is Farm Co-op special. Surplus 4" steel posts drilled into the rock.

What alarms did you use? That's a good idea. We put a camera at ours so we get images of anyone coming up to or going through the gate. We get more pictures of animals than anything else.

"drilled into the rock"

You gotta tell us more. Curious minds want to know.

Similar here. Pair of 10' gates I built out of square tubing years ago, attached to 6x6 steel I beam sunk in several yards of concrete, then laid the rock around them. I use OSCO brand 1/2hp openers (2) also triggered by our garage door openers. Had them 20 years now with very few problems.....they are ALL mechanical switching for one thing....not an integrated circuit or chip on them ! Also use the MURS sensors, both magnetic and motion (where it can be seen from the house).

Nice gates, both of you !

That's why you put an electric gate opener on it. Our gate is closed about 99% of the time, whether we are here or not. Only left open if I know in advance someone is coming to visit, or expecting a package.

Got the gate, have the solar panel and have the op rod. What I don't have is a gate operator or control unit since it got zapped by lightning.

What do you recommend? I have no idea what the make or model of my opener is, I'll see if I can take a pic tomorrow.

Thanks,

I used Genie brand gate openers the first few years. They got zapped by lightning so often, I think the gal on the phone in parts and I were on a first name basis I ordered new boards so often. Finally I ran into these OSCO brand openers that don't have a single chip, board, or integrated circuit on them.....strictly mechanical switching (except for the radio receiver part), and I've had very little trouble with them over 20 years.....stuff DOES wear, but is easy to replace.

Our topography here is right out of "Rocky Top". Where those post are located is solid rock. It's my great fortune to have a brother in law that does drilling and blasting, so he drilled me 2 4" dia holes about 4 ft deep. UNfortunately, they got drilled a little crooked!

A couple of pics below while I was putting in the posts. The first one shows where I chiseled out a "square" in the rock for a concrete pad around the post and a couple of pieces of rebar I drilled into the rock including one THROUGH the steel post. Should make it hard to pull up the post.

The alarms are Dakota MURS "MAPS" (buried magnetic) sensors.

We kept a game camera up there for a while, but it was a nuisance to maintain and I figured it was an easy theft target. Also thought that the solar panel and battery would be a target, but have been fortunate so far.

I've said it on here before in another thread, but I cannot overemphasize how reassuring it is, especially late at night, to know that we will be alerted should someone drive down our very remote road. The very high degree of reliability of the equipment makes this possible. Even if someone intent on mischief were to smash and disable the gate and its alarm, the SECOND alarm would get them. And it was all pretty low cost. SOOOOO worth it to us. Peace of mind.

Just put this 24" x 18" sign up at the entrance to the trail down to our small lake where we caught the guy fishing the other day. Hope this helps!

Will be putting two more up at other entrances to the property, likely today. They are nice big signs, and very visible.

It will help with people that will obey them. Trouble is, lot of trespassers simply ignore signs. Gates are far more proactive.....lot of them won't enter if they can't drive into it.
