It seems like you can get a big tax credit if you install a solar gate opener. What is the advantage of hard-wiring it?

I don't want something that is easy to vandalize.

I guess I'm just lucky. 15+ years out here and no problems at all with trespassers. I did notice some common things, they all seem to be about "the lay of the land."

I'm in a "ranchette" subdivision: 15 ten acre lots on a private dirt road. It seems that most of the people with trespasser problems are out in the sticks on their own, like off a main road or something, not in a subdivision?

I also have more cars than I need, which are all kept licensed and insured. This means that even when no one is home, there is always one car in the driveway that looks good and recently driven, sometimes two. From the private dirt road you can see that there is at least one car in the driveway. That seems to help.

I have a surveillance camera mounted above my garage door overlooking the driveway. Don't know if that's a deterrent or not but since you have to basically pull into the driveway to see it, I doubt it's a deterrent.

What I don't have: gate, "no trespassing" sign, dogs. I guess in my particular setup they just aren't necessary. Knock on wood.

The more 'flow' of non-resident people/cars/ATVs past your driveway, the more problems. If your access road is a dead end, where anyone passing by would have to turn around and pass by again to get out, then less problems.

If I saw that sign anywhere in my county I would be calling the federal government requesting an investigation and you would probably have some other kind of unwelcome visitors with a EPA search warrant.

Nah, the EPA is busy cleaning up the mess they made out west. Or at least they say they are cleaning up.... :shocked:
