Sorry to hear of your situation. I hope you can find "something" to share, if even a single day. You will have peace knowing you tried.

Since your dad is somewhat inactive, it seems you need a way to get together at his place. How about picking the NFL season kick-off for a cookout and watch a game together ....

Start with a phone call every day (or a few times a week), discuss how your days went and what's on your plate next...
Doesn't seem like much, but I bet he will look forward to it (even if he doesn't say so).

aczlan - good idea, and you got me to thinking along that line.

Sadly, we have lost something as a society - personal communication. Traditionally, that would have included writing letters. Even now, when something heavy is on my mind, I'll put it in a letter. I have time to write/edit to get my thoughts down and the reader can take his/her time to consider what I've said.

Write your dad a letter. Tell him you miss him.

Have you told your dad what you've told us?

In this day and age, sometimes it's the method of communication. I've noticed that there are many folks that will email, text or use Facebook messaging (or other types of messaging that I'm not familiar with) instead of talking. They will "say" things more readily in a text or IM than they will face to face.

Now, given what you've said, I have no idea if your Dad does any of those things, but maybe it's worth a shot. As Mossroad mentioned, have you told him? That's a tough conversation to have, because there is always the fear that he may not reciprocate. But as they say, at the end of your life, you will more often than not regret the things that you DIDN'T do, more than things you DID do. Don't let this be something you didn't do, if it is that important to you.

If you give your full measure, and it still doesn't go anywhere, than at least your conscience is clear and you know you did the best that you could.

Hope things work out for you. Good luck and take care.

Guys...thanks for the advice. I think I got what I needed here, going to go back and make a stealth edit.

Have you told your dad what you've told us?

Or perhaps show him or forward this thread?

Best of luck whatever you do.

I guess I missed out on the original post since it has been edited. But I can only offer this, you are still lucky to have your Dad.
