Not sure where in VT you are but Townline as of a few mos ago had a "off road" dump trailer on the lot. No winch that I saw. Maybe 8x10? Might be too large for what you want. I use an old dump trailer for what you describe. Just park it a grapple 10-12ft lengths into it with the loader.

Have you looked at the DR Versatrailer pro? I've used it extensively this year for log and split firewood transport. Very well built and pulls easily behind Kubota BX2200. It's similar to the T-Rex.

I also have been looking for a dump trailer for the woods that is rugged but not overly expensive. I am beginning to think I will probably have to make/remake something. If you find something let us know. The other problem I would have with a trailer in the woods is getting it turned around on my narrow trails.

In the mean time I use a $150 carryall and move 1/2 cord at a time between the carryall and bucket. I can tip the carryall back with the hydraulic top link and it will dump rounds but it doesn't quite dump split wood. It is easy to load and unload with all the low side and back access and I can stick it right in the wood shed.

Very nice wood shed! How big is it? How many cords does it hold? Looks like you have slats for airflow?

I'm planning on using some kind of pallet system (oops, there's the p word again) so I can stack maybe 2 high and attempt to not have to handle the wood a bunch of times and rely on my forks to move them. Trying to get set up now for when I'm decrepit.

Ok, how about some "Fatwood" , like they sell in the grocery stores, LL Bean, and other places.. great fire starter !!!

They cleared me 7 acres here and the stumper guy saved these out for me.. got maybe 6 of them in differing sizes!

Thanks ! It is 16' X 10'
Each bay holds 4 cord - about a years worth for us in each side. So I am always a year ahead in the shed with more stacked in the woods. You never know what might happen or when a year will come when you can't do wood.

The vertical board siding is 1 X 4 rough cut white pine with about 1-1/4" spacing between.

That's beautiful. I've seen pics of it before I think but am just now interested in the details as I'll be doing something similar in the near future ... was thinking of using the lean too around the pole barn for wood but that will probably get used up with tractor implements and the dump truck I recently bought so I may need some wood sheds.

So many great ideas in this thread!

Yes, I've considered the DR Versa-trailer. (I live just a few miles from the DR headquarters in Vergennes, VT - unfortunately, they don;t have one there for me to see last I checked.) It's not just similar to the T-Rex, it's identical, from what I can tell. It's either made at the same Chinese factory, or DR cloned the T-Rex (DR does have a habit of cloning successful products made by others). Glad to hear that it's holding up and working out well for you. That gives me a bit better feeling about considering them.

I'm leaning toward the Woodland trailer type, rather than the T-Rex. Reasons for this: I won't use the boom crane on the T-Rex (or Versa-trailer) to load logs. I'll use my tractor, to load from the side, or use the winch to pull logs in over the end. Since I don't really need the boom, the fact that the boom crane on the T-Rex / Versa-Trailer limits dumping to 650 lbs and a 35˚ angle, while the Woodland Trailer can dump the full 2000 lbs and reach an angle of 60˚ makes the Woodland Trailer a better choice for me (we have a lot of sticky, clay soils around here, so the steeper dump angle is a real bonus). I'd consider DR's trailer if they made the Woodland version, and if they got the price down: Their regular price for the 1 ton model is $2400. Even on sale at $2000, that's still $300 more than the Woodland Trailer (maybe more, if it turns out the Woodland Trailer prices are in Canadian $).

I'd really like to find something similar, but that will handle 3000# (half a cord of green Beech firewood), but I may end up going with this. I expect going bigger gets a lot more expensive, and maneuverability in my woods is a concern.

Very nicely done. I am going to use this plan for mine.

I'm in Western VT, in the Champlain Valley. Where is Townline? It sounds as though their unit may be a bit wide for me. Some of my trails are narrow and twisty, but it might be worth looking at.
