How you protect your farm from theft???

I did. However, I'll maintain that either booby or bobby trapping is a bad idea.

It's an excellent idea if you want to a) go to prison or b) get sued for everything you own - and lose or c) both.

I think this is the kind of post that should be deleted by mods (the original one not yours), spelled correctly or not and little smiley things or not.

IMO, it would be a far better rule than the moronic one of actively protecting by nuking threads that identify thieving POS windshield vendors.

Jack,

From everything I have read, putting traps, lethal or not, for people is basically illegal. If someone gets hurt by one, the person setting the trap is probably going to have serious legal trouble. Posting about in public forums will probably get the person setting it in even more trouble.

I certainly understand the frustration of having trespassers on my ground and can appreciate yours.

What I really don't want to happen is your frustration being used against you by some trespasser or prosecuting attorney. It is kind of sad that the victim of trespassing can so quickly be made into a criminal just for protecting their own. Good luck with your situation. I hope it works out well for you.

For my situation, my wife and I both open carry whenever we are on our ground and I have no compunction about target shooting or archery practice from the fence line into my property. I greet most everybody with a smile and a wave but somebody would have to be blind not to notice. The couple of neighbors that took/are taking advantage of my being nice are starting to appreciate that I'm not kidding. (One I've finally convinced that I will shoot their dogs if they don't flee when I'm on my property and the other I showed proof that he had been trespassing. I did that with a smile and the warning that I do hunt and target shoot, both firearms and arrows, and I was concerned he might accidentally get hurt. I believe he got the message.) Another thing that seems to help is I have made friends with the two curmudgeonly neighbors. It is interesting that the two curmudgeons don't trespass and have asked when they wanted to cross my ground. Of course, I told them okay. They may be cranky but they are actually pretty considerate.

We have automatic gate at one drive and chained gate at other. A good chain & lock. Chain had to be cut with torch at farm supply.
Recorded cameras with remote view, monitored alarm systems transmitted by cell/ radio.keep stuff locked up and outta sight as much as possible. Things that roll one wheel can be taken off, but usually not practacal. Neighbors can help too if there not the ones stealing. For smaller items hidden is better than safes if you can remember where there at. Make a list. Hid a gun 4 years ago. Haven't found yet

Maybe a trap that drops a gallon of paint down on them? Hmmm.

Just skimming the threads I see good & somewhat bad advice.
1 any cameras are better than none. Not everyone has $5k to sink into a 16 channel 5 terabyte dvr with port forwarding set up.
2. Scrap piles are like magnets to draw in scrapers. No scrap metal in sight.
3. A lot of gun shots just advertises you have firearms to steal.
4. Locked gates with the best locks & chains available , no trespassing and beware of dog signs help somewhat.
5. Optex 2000 motion sensors work really well if at home. Excellent reliability & range. Forget the cheap ones.
6. A good monitored security system, buried phone line, with dummy decor line, cell or radio transmitted to central station, and/or a auto dialer to your cell phone.
7. Motion lights, line carrier modules that annunciate over power lines to receiver in house if home is also low cost.
8. Forget booby traps.... Illegal.
9. Never shoot anyone stealing your stuff, except in air, unless life threatened. Still could be a civil suit. Could still beat the snot outta them, but may set yourself up for future ambush.
10. Get rid of ALL your stuff and don't worry about it. :).

I have old 27" TV at my camp, make them work for it. I leave curtains open so they can see nothing is there. If I do leave a hard gun case, I leave it open. I also keep the truck doors closed on my barn, so people can't see what is in there.

I knew someone who left one window open, so they would not smash there way in. That is assuming they take the time to find it, rather then smash the first window they see.

Best thing has been getting to know the neighbors.
