I'm fed up with the line of bull crap I get when shopping at retail chains for prescription eye glasses. "Buy one get one free" kind of nonsense where it would end up costing well over three hundred bucks to get this "free" pair of glasses. "Designer glasses" has to be one of the biggest consumer ripoffs there is IMO.

Soooooo... in this day and age I'd expect I could get a better deal at a more reasonable price online. Has anyone had a good experience buying prescription glasses online?

I was hesitant to purchase prescription glasses on line. I read a few articles about Warby-Parker on line glasses. Still hesitant, i visited their store in ATL to see them in person to alliaviate my fears. I browsed their collection of frames priced between $95 and $145 each including scratch resistant single vision lenses. I chose a $95 frame but I wanted progressive lenses so my total for that pair was $295. I also purchased a pair of single vision sunglasses for a $150. Even buying them in store the sales person pulled out her iPad and ordered the glasses on line. I was very impressed by the glasses when I received them about two weeks later. Ordering glasses on line the prices quoted includes tax and shipping both ways. Their policy is 30 days free return no questions asked. Also, if the frames require adjusting, take them to any optical store and they will reimburse you for the adjustment up to $50. I've had mine now about 5 months and am delighted.

I went to a Wallymart and was completely satisfied (and I despise shopping at wallmart for just about EVERYTHING)

The optometry is independent though and my local outlet was fantastic. The help totally qualified and the turn around time fast plus the price great...never mind the convenience of a giant walleye world parking lot.

I'm waiting for dentistry next :D

Been using Zenni for years. Some time ago some publisher tested the accuracy of filled eyeglass prescriptions from all the major players. Zenni came out on top. Try it. For ten or twenty bucks you've got nothing to lose and hundreds if not thousands of dollars to gain. Glasses with extra features cost a little more but not much.

I've used ZENNI optical for single vsion glasses. I've been well served at a low price. Don't use them for bi-focals and such... fitting the frame to the lens' optical center for your eye position is much more critical.

Thanks for the info. I've gone ahead and ordered a pair of glasses from this Zenni site. With one of their less expensive tint options and one of their coating options the total with shipping was 65 bucks. I'll post a brief review when they arrive!

They have the photo try on feature, but I've went to Walmart and tried on ones I thought fit and looked good. Then noted the measurements and used that as a guideline. If you chose one that won't work well like no line bifocals, it'll tell you so. You can also order a pair of frames you think you'll like with just glass in them cheap to try on if not sure. Most expensive pair I've got from them was $200. Transitions lens, no line bifocals, w/ titanium flex frames. Would have been at least 5-6 hundred elsewhere

My Ex is an optician. Now works at Wallyworld. She told me about the eye glass racket and always wanted to open her own shop and make BIG money.

Most chains here in Canada are all owned by two companies or something like that.
