I been using cheap chainsaws for 40 years, knowing I would need to work on them as much as I cut with them but I hate to give up on anything, I still have my first bicycle (will fix it up someday). My one non-cheapo allowance 10 years ago was a Stihl MS250C, it was a day vs night compared to the Poulans and Macs I used up clearing property and cutting firewood, but I always kept them going since my son seems to not be able to tell the difference between the ground and a tree and I am the only one allowed on the Stihl.
I have been working on clearing 5 acres and around a pond with many very large trees. I have large excavator to take them down but cutting them up with my MS250 has been a chore but it is a trooper and cut up everything I put in front of it (my two Poulan Pro 20" required more work than cutting time.) However, my faithful MS250 died a horrible death this morning, a 30" maple rolled while cutting root ball off, bound the blade and slowly rolled over the saw
. I may have cried a little but I was sweating a lot so my wife did not notice. My wife told me to just get in the truck and go get it fixed (this is not the first time I have had major damage, I had a tree fall on it a few years but this time it was bad), so I took it to the Stihl shop and sat it on the counter, the old mechanic looked at it and at me and said "I have a 45 in the truck, would you like to put if out of its misery." Thought about crying again but I am in air conditioned shop, no sweating this time so it would not look good in front of the crowd gathered at the counter looking at my little chainsaw. My wife pulled me over to the rack with all the chainsaws and told to just pick out the one I always wanted. Wow, maybe a good can come from bad. The owner of the shop has a tree service and has cleared a few trees around my house for me and knew of the area I have been clearing. He and I have visited many a day looking at chainsaws bs'ing about life but today he just walked over the rack and pulled off a MS441c magnum and handed it to me, and said "this is what you've been needing for the past 10 years."
So, after this long story, I tell you I am the proud owner of the a Stihl MS441C-M. Wow, this thing is like using a hot knife in butter compared all the chainsaws I used in the past 40 years.:dance1:
