BH10 Series Rotary Cutters

i do not like the tail wheel design at all the "bushhog" looks way to flimzy. one good smack in the woods or onto something and i am guessing the wheel will bend?

i do not like the "woods" model. more so top of deck. lots of areas for crud to accumulate.. more so water.. and rust the deck out.

looking at the "bushhog" looks like it would accumulate crud as well. once it gets beaten in some. and allow water to collect on top of it.

be careful on gauge / thickness of metal for overall deck. they can easily use different metals for deck. end result one may hold up better to rocks, stumps, larger tree branches and everything else that will fly into and beat the deck up. a beat up deck will cause paint to flake off to rusting out quicker, etc...

When comparing prices between dealers, are all the options identical? With the bush hog you get choices of quick hitch vs standard. Shear pin vs slip clutch. Front chains vs rubber guard. All affect the price quite a bit--hundreds of dollars between the base model with shear pin and rubber flap vs chains and slip clutch.

The deck gauge on the BH is one thicker than the King Kutter or TSC models, but remember it is not a heavy duty cutter. There is a balance between durability and too heavy. The BH15 is already heavier than I'm comfortable running on my NH Boomer 30 without the front loader kept on when mowing my uneven hilly trails.

After using mine a year, and last week on wet grass, my one complaint would be the choice to out all the support beams under the deck. It creates a lot of places for wet grass to build up. The top of the deck is a lot easier to blow off than the bottom is to clean.

I have ran my BH16 threw some pretty thick saplings and it has held up well so far.Mine is only 1 year old so time will tell..I would call it a medium duty rotary cutter..

Still deciding on slip clutch or shear pin model.

Any advice/opinions is welcomed.

Thanks

I have a light duty JD LX6 I have 200+ hours on, it has a shear pin PTO and I have only gone through a couple dozen pins in all those hours, most happened during the first few months. If you are cutting the same property all the time as I do, you will remove the things you can impact. In this case a slip-clutch would only add something else you will need to insure is adjusted properly or risk expensive damage to the gear box (a "pin" in my case is a .20-cent grade three bolt.) However, if you are going to be cutting unknown property fairly often I would recommend a slip-clutch as getting on and off a tractor several times during a couple passes gets old very quickly. Good Luck.

I got the BH15 today. Only got to use it for about 15 minutes but tomorrow I have a pasture to go cut for a lady that I cut yearly.

This Bush Hog is well built. Built a whole lot better than what I thought it would be. It's not comparable to one from TSC. But this isn't bush hog's bottom line model either. Although the BH 10 Series took the place of the Squealer models, I would for sure say this is a medium duty cutter.

The gearbox is made in China for Alamo (Bush Hog). Has the Alamo tag on gearbox. There is even a dipstick on the gearbox to check the oil! It's plastic and threaded that just screws into the top of the gear box.
This mower has the front belting, rear band, and quick hitch ready.

Thanks to all that replied. I'll try to post some pics and give a review after I've had it a while. From what I've seen so far the build quality is outstanding.

You can bend/break the PTO driveline on any rotary cutter if you lift it too high. Is there anything special about the Woods design that makes it more susceptible to this problem?

Last year I bought a BH14 equipped with a shear pin. Had a slip clutch been available on the 4' model, I think I would have gone that route, but I haven't sheared a pin yet.

Steve

I have a Woods BB720X. I backed over a log, the cutter flipped up high, and *bamb* broken Category 4 driveshaft. My local Fleet Pride reused the factory yokes and built a new driveshaft about an inch shorter.

I just finished with 9.5 acres of almost nonstop hogging. The BH15 is a very strong cutter. The slip clutch helped a lot as some folks at these lake development properties want to use the overgrown areas as their personal dumping grounds.

Does that roll bar hit the top link when raised?

Got to use the cutter for a couple hours today. I'm well pleased with the build quality but the discharge SUCKS! Gonna take the rear band off and see if that'll help. Something has to be done. But the quality of the mower is perfect in my opinion.
