Buying Advice New TMT (Chinese ) 40hp ?

   / New TMT (Chinese ) 40hp ? #21
I had a tractor budget,, I choose to buy used vs new chinese.. I'm glad I did... I'm money ahead...

What have you saved if this low quality unit ends up as a yard ornament ,and you have to buy another tractor ??

Your other chinese items won't see near the punishment as a tractor..Just visit the chinese forum, and read the problems..

Sure all mechanical things have some problems.. But not not near the kind of / type problems chinese tractors have.. In the end, it's your $$ ,and your decision... good luck

I am hearing you, that is why I am asking for advice.
My main concern is to buy something with a decent warranty, do you think the warranty I mentioned previously is good enough and if so would you take 5 year parts only or 3 years parts with 1 year labour ?

It looks like there are both LS and TYM dealers in NSW...have you priced either of those brands?

Neither ! So, after 5 yrs ( if the dealer stays in business that long) you have a yard ornament !!

What if this dealer selling this tractor goes out of business the day after you buy.. Who's going to warranty this tractor then ??
There is a reason a chinese tractor is cheap.... It's called a lack of quality !
Buy a name brand tractor , even if you have to buy used

There is an old saying,,, A person convinced against their will , is of the same opinion still !

I've given my advise,, It's your $$.. do as you wish .

So far from what I have learned, every man and his dog say that Cinese tractors are crap.
The good reports only come from people who sell them.

I'm not going to bad mouth Chinese tractors because I have never owned or driven one. Besides, there are plenty of people here to do that for me. I would love to visit China and see what brand of tractors their farmers use. Surely with so many people they have farmers? Having said all that, I have some good Chinese stuff and some not so good. The really bad stuff goes in the dumpster. Good luck and I would try to find some owners of the actual machine and ask for their input.

We have a 2003 Chinese Jinma/FarmPro 2420 20hp 2cyl diesel - It's of "ok" quality. Meaning that if you don't mind getting your hands dirty then it's ok. Also, we use ours about 80 - 100hrs a year. So it gets routine maint once a season usually in the spring. I have done the valve adjustments once. They did need it and I wouldn't skip a step like that one just because it made a difference. Ours starts easily even in cold weather. But, it is a chinese tractor of varying quality. Meaning that some bolts will be removed with SAE(1/4", 1/2" etc) wrenches and some bolts will be metric sizes. That's due to the varying chinese quality. Also, the filters are another unknown. You have to figure out what american sizes work on them. No one just tells you this stuff. Also, like mentioned the manuals are of very, very poor quality english and if you can decipher them you are lucky. A lot of times they change stuff and the manuals don't reflect the running changes. Unlike a higher quality tractor which will hold changes until model cutovers, the chinese just change stuff on the fly making it tough for dealers to figure out even.

All that said, i would buy another one provided it is used in the correct application like ours. We keep it indoors and keep up on the repairs and proactive maintenance. Also, the 100hr a year figure is the absolute max I would run one of these chinese things. They are not designed for heavy duty applications or higher use. They are a light duty product and as such you must treat it that way. If you are planning on using it as a grader, digging instrument or in commercial applications, I would NOT even consider one of these. It will be broken more than running and you WILL be waiting for parts. That does not bode well for commercial guys who run things. They need parts and service quickly and easily. This tractor follows the big 3 rules. Do you want fast, good, or cheap. You only get to pick two. Which two do you gamble on ?

.

Not necessarily A Chinese quality thing, my last Ford pickup had metric fasteners on it along with the SAE ones, also my Harley Davidson has metric fasteners on it along with the SAE.. just a "world market" thing anymore I believe. Heck, how much more American can you get than Harley Davidson? The whole front end on it (forks and such) are a Japanese part system!

Just thought I would add my comment.
I have owned a Chinese tractor since 2007, when I bought it new. It was about 1/3 of the cost of one of the main brands for the same horse power. I bought it knowing I would be doing the repair work and maintenance. Used = unknown in most cases, no matter what brand and usually includes problems of one sort or another. I chose the Jinma route and have only one regret - that I didn't buy a cab tractor. Otherwise I have been happy with my purchase in Canada. Australia it might be different of course, but do you homework and check out other brands like Foton, Dong Feng or even Jinma. The big thing is to acknowledge that you aren't buying a JD, MF or other main brand tractor and treat it accordingly.
