Prescription Eye Glasses online?

My Ex is an optician. Now works at Wallyworld. She told me about the eye glass racket and always wanted to open her own shop and make BIG money.

Most chains here in Canada are all owned by two companies or something like that.

I don't blame her at all. Do some searches for "Luxottica monopoly" and you'll get tons of articles along the lines of

Thanks for the info. I've gone ahead and ordered a pair of glasses from this Zenni site. With one of their less expensive tint options and one of their coating options the total with shipping was 65 bucks. I'll post a brief review when they arrive!

I got a pair of glasses from them, $70ish for my high prescription glasses (-8.50 and -9.00) vs $300+ for my last glasses.

60 Minutes did a story on Luxottica a couple of years ago. They do hold a near monopoly on the eyeglass frame industry.

Anyone have a good source for contact lenses on line?

I've used eyebuydirect.com twice with excellent results both times. Far better lenses than what I've experienced locally. The only downside is the wait, as they are coming from China. Saved so much money, that I bought multiple pairs at once.

Eyeglasses are a total racket. It's one thing I don't mind buying from Asia.

AGREE'D Eyeglasses Online - Buy Prescription Glasses & Eyeglass Frames | Zenni Optical is where I have been buying my glasses for the last 5-8 years. I have a family friend who works at an optical shop, took th first 3-4 pair with RX to have accuracy checked and spot on every time, BTW I get no line bi-focals. 3 pair of glasses 2 for me no line bifocals one tinted for sun and my wifes pair was less that $200.00 !

BE AWARE of the Chinese new year it WILL delay your order by a week or two.

I finally got the pair of glasses I ordered from Zenni-- thanks for the input from others here. Maybe not the highest quality frames but that could just be due to the particular model I ordered. Added a few options such as lens coating and 5% tint and still much cheaper than any of the local over-priced chain stores. The prescription and actual lenses are just fine.
