Here is one of it sitting next to a ct225. The ct is 1 foot wider.

Can only post one pic at a time

If you discount the cab, how much difference is there between what work you can get done and implements you can use between these two. I understand one's much newer and has an HST but can you do 2x as much or 2x as fast with the bobcat? I guess I'm trying to get some measure of work/$. Which one would you say is the better value?

Hi Scotty-

Do you mind sharing how much money you've got into this setup as it is? Were you really set on getting a Yanmar? I ask because it seems to me that by the time you buy the tractor, swap the tires, add the ROPS, etc it may have been simpler and less expensive to buy something else- like a Kioti or a new Yanmar, and possibly still had a warrenty. I suppose if you've got exactly what you want now, that's what very satisfying.

There has been several here that have had a 336 and still some that are current herelike yanmars.

Domush did an almost complete rebuild/restoration thread where he bought a rough shape 336 and ended up rebuilding the engine for us all to see. It was like 2/3 liners replaced one or two rods, bearings, pistons and lots of other work including a new dash panel out of wood. i think it is the most detailed engine build thread i have ever come acoross on this forum for yanmars at least. he took lots of pictures as well along the way and did fantastic writups. I think he has dissappeared in the last few years but that is probably a good sign as his posting was more frequent with problems. Maybe he sold it but it had all kinds of issues when he got it, and still had a few of the gears in the trans missing teeth or something so he did not use them. If that tractor is still tilling his garden and mowing his lawn that says something for thier reliability and ruggedness.

I can tell you that his tires/rims and ROPS probably are what you have in your budget alone!!! Hoye lists the price of there turf kit for what ever tractor your thinging about getting it for on thier site. And the ROPs has been listed here before.

He has a solid reliable yet simple tractor that is the draw to these. I be he has something like $5000-6500 in his tractor before the additions i bet. You might get a newer Kioti or Yanmar or cub/yanmar for just a bit more money dont think it would still have a warrenty but your parts probably would cost more as there are aftermarket parts for these small tracotors on some stuff and hoye makes thier own hard to find parts on thier Lathe and cnc machines. The newer tracotors regarless of manufactur will be computer controlled and harder to diagnose and fix as well. Read what Hoye says on models to avoid specifically the Fxxx model tractors. I think those are from the 90s era. The are all computer controlled and lack english service manuals...which you could get for any of the american yanmars or kioti or whatever but you still need to spend lots of time with a probe and know what your doing where. These old tractors seem to be over engineered (except for a few items like axles shafts on the 1500/2000) and simplistic to repair and simple knowlege of mechanics and engines and or coming here with detailed infor and we can most likely get you going again. the latter is the appeal of these older YM series yanmars.

Over all grunt is a lot more with the bobcat but it's a lot heaver to. It is not 2x as productive maybe 25% more. But it is much much nicer to operate with hydro trans, power steering smooth hydraulics large comfortable platform and everything seems to be where it is supposed to be. Don't get me wrong I loved my Yanmars they were great but they were 1982 and older machines. And did everything I needed especially the 1702. Until I found the deal on the bobcat I planed on keeping the Yanmar forever. In fact I kept it quite a while after I got the bobcat because I was so fond of it and I new I could count on it. But after using the new machine I did not want to use my beloved Yanmar anymore If you have never operated anything like a bobcat ct 225 (kioti ck 27) you should really take one for a spin it is a pleasure to operate and get on and off of not a chore.

Generally speaking 1 to 2 foot wider Implements. Bushhog 4'vrs 5'. Box blade 4'vrs 6'. Grader blade 5'vrs 7'. As far as better value? I guess only time will tell. The Yanmar was Cheeper obviously ( I still paid about half of what I had to pay for the bobcat)but it was a used 30 + years old gray market and the ct was a new 1 year old model. So I think that if in 30+ years the bobcat is still going strong like the Yanmar was then I don't think anyone could complain about that.
