Ed, do you have a favorite brand and variety of bean to plant. We always did best with Burpees bush bean of some variety.

We used to plant Blue Lake and thought we would never change but we tried Jade as a small part of our crop a few years ago and the next year and every year sense we have planted all Jade. If your fertility is good and we get some rain we pick hands full of 8" beans. Hold the plant with one hand and pick around 6 beans in one grab. Ed

We have enough room to plant a bigger patch so we do. We can't lean over as easy as we used to so we just plant a big enough patch so we can pull the plants when we pick them. Just sit on a stool and pull a plant and pick the beans off and pull another plant. The first patch we got busy and it turned hot and humid so we just tilled most of them in and planted a fall crop. So far we have canned around 180 qt and should put up another 48 qt today. The last 1 1/2 to 2 bushels we hope to make into veg. soup. The thing I still like the most is I never use a hoe, and I pulled One weed out of the whole patch. (there were no more to pull) Ed
