I may use the fel to clear my blacktop driveway...any good way to cover the steel edge of the fel so it doesn't scrape up my blacktop

I have heard of people cutting a slot in PVC pipe, and slipping it over the edge. A more sophisticated methods is to build a clamp that holds a rubber edge. I don't have to worry about plowing snow, so I haven't tried either method.

I have found trying to use 'plastic' pipe to be frustrating. You spend a lot of time putting it back in place, and you don't get a lot of use out of it before it cracks and splits. I've tried it on the FEL bucket and the back blade. On the back blade I have sandwiched in some horse matting strips as suggested by others here. For the FEL edge I am still looking for a solution to plow my blacktop drive, where I don't have to drill or at least drill many holes in the little BX bucket.

Of course I realize solutions do depend on your ability to weld or fabricate and the size of the machine.

I use mine on my blacktop (newly paved) and it doesn't scratch it, just watch the tilt so that you don't dig in. I just find the minimum angle needed to scrape the snow / ice off and put it in float.

Do a search -- lots of threads/ideas. I think the most common is a pipe. Someone also makes a commercial product exactly for this purpose.

Just bolt a piece of 2x4 hardwood, or treated yellow pine, to the bottom of the cutting edge.

Recess the mounting holes into the board, so the bolt heads don't scrape the pavement.

My dad does this every year. It lasts all winter for him.

I just use the the float position. Works great for me.

I bolted on two snow blower skids shoes (round shaped) under my bucket.. it will leave two scrape marks across the driveway sometimes though..
