I have a 4530 and I have noticed when I am pulling a heavy load(in low 1) my rear end pops and it seems to slip. Not every revolution but every once in a while. Anyone else had this problem? Is this a precurser to transmission break down?

Thanks

Check your lugnuts...sometimes one will get loose and sound like that....you will feel a slight sensation when this happens...BobG in VA

If you are in 4WD on a hard surface the front and back wheels could cause binding pressure which could cause wheels to skip.
A differential lock that has not released will cause rear wheels to skip while turning.
A friend of mine had his diff lock stick. After several turns he ended up breaking some teeth off a few gears. Then every once in a while he would feel a pop and one wheel would skip or stop turning when the broke off gear tooth came around. Replacing the broken parts fixed his problem.
Check lug nuts as Bob mentioned.

Thanks guys, I will be at the farm tomorrow and I will check out the lug nuts. Oh how I wish i could be something so simple. It is still under warranty so I would hope if something is bad wrong they would fix it. It has never been on concrete or other hard surface. Only used at the farm.

Had slipping, but no popping. Tires were a bit low in pressure, not gripping the rim well, and the beet juice for loading the tires was good lubrication on the rims which was allowing slippage under load. Added air and all was good and I put paint marks on the rim and tire so if it happens again it 'll be obvious. I had thought something was wrong with the clutch or transmission.

Unfortunately all my lugnuts are tight. Is there a spring or shock on the rear left that could be compressing under load? that is almost what it seems like.

Thanks

It sounds serious. Cant tell from here where in the driveline it is but 1] Id guess the final drive [outside the trans] has a chipped tooth. 2] You have checked that the diff lock is either ON or OFF - not remaining partially engaged ... right??
Either could cause.:confused3:

,,,Can your dealer send out a mechanic to assess at your site?

Yes, it still has a warranty but was hoping it might be something else. It feels like it is in the left rear wheel. Thanks for all the replies.

Does it do it in 2wd or only in 4 wd? If it only happens in 4wd the linkage for the engagement needs lubed or adjusted. The dogs that engage the 4wd are spring loaded and if not fully engaged will jump under load.
