Cub Cadet LTX 1040
Hey all,

My first post here. I decided to join since I'm battling what I thought would be an easy repair. I was having some choke issues with my cub cadet 1040 ltx 1040, w/ kholer engine SV590-0220. I removed the carb, cleaned it out, and reattached. When i reconnected everything, and put some gas in the mower, now I'm getting fuel coming out of the hole where the choke plate is at. What could be causing this? I've taken it apart, checked out the float, and can't make a bit of sense out of this.

Any thoughts?

Float valve isn't sealing allowing fuel to overfill the carb. Most likely you will need to replace the valve which may only be available in the repair kit for your engine.

I agree; except that often the float valve is ok, but has a tiny fleck of gunk stuck in the float needle/seat, or something mechanically keeping the float from hinging up to shut off flow. Examine the tip of the needle very closely with a magnifying glass for any cracks or significant ridges, and blow everything out with carb cleaner and then compressed air. Any chance that the float is cracked and "sunk"? Also check for proper function of the fuel shutoff solenoid valve threaded into the center of the bottom of the carb float bowl. You should be able to hear it click when you switch the key off and on. Often they have a faulty ground connection or main wire that can be easily corrected.

try this: remove carb from engine. disasm and soak overnite in liquid carb cleaner. Using magnifier and small dia stiff brass wire, probe EVERY passageway/orifice in each component, blowing same out with compressed air. Rinse each component in clean fluid and lay out in order to dry.
Rebuild carb using components/direction from correct carb rebuild kit. Do NOT re-use any old needles/seats or gaskets. Above all, work clean.
Remount carb, retest.
