Another MX5200 Runaway Diesel

Years ago I was taking a fuel injection class. One of the students started a 6-71 Detroit and an injector stuck in full fuel! Fortunately the student had enough presence of mind to slap the emergency stop before taking cover. After we all emerged from cover we were all abuzz about the runaway diesel. The instructor comes up and dead pans, "I did not see a diesel running away, I saw a bunch of students running away!":laughing:

So, you would approach the size of the engine, pull pin on grille guard, pull grille guard forward, put face near hood, pull hood release, open hood, lift hood, open air intake, stuff rags in.... All while a tractor designed for 3000 rpm max is racing at over 4000 rpm. You are braver than I my friend.

A thrown rod or fragging turbo will kill you. Brave is occasionally the camouflage of DUMB. The design of the Kubota does not allow a safe way to kill a runaway. If there is a large CO2 canister handy then that is the best method. Unfortunately I left mine I the runway of the airport. Probably need to tow it at all times.

Kubota has had the tractor one month. No concession or upgrade, despite numerous 5200's doing this. I MAY pay the difference and get the 5800. But their only offer has been a replacement of tractor only. Loader and valves get moved.

Loader and valves are added at dealer level anyway, they don't come from the factory that way.

If you're in the seat when it runs away, you could stall it by putting it in a high gear and standing on the brakes. Maybe dig the loader into the ground too.

Agreed. If they are offering a new tractor, take that offer. Right now!

Conspiracy theory here: Will the new Kubota Bomb be rigged to blow up when you turn the key on?

If they have not fixed the problem, and the new tractor in 60 hours or so does the same thing, will they say that its your fault? Or will they give you another new tractor?

Be careful, dont jump on their offer too quickly. Ask plenty of questions and leave nothing to chance. It has already taken them over a month to offer to replace it. They probably will not replace another out of the kindness of their heart.

I had a diesel genset get away from me once, was running on engine oil that had been overfilled. Pretty exciting stuff ! Got her shut down by blocking the intake.

It's new engine tech ... Still bugs to work out. Just think, you'll get new engine, maybe a whole new tractor!

Just what every customer dreams of, getting a new tractor so they can work the bugs out of it, for the mfg!!

I'd call EVERYONE at Kubota until I got someone, who would approve MY "demand" to pay a reasonable difference, for a DIFFERENT model, as this isn't the first time (or even second) it's happen to this model!

BEING A DIESEL MECHANIC FOR 40 PLUS YEARS THE WAYS ADRESS TO STOP A RUN AWAY ARE CORRECT BUT IF YOUR IN THE SEAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS ITS A LOT DIFFERENT IM GLAD NO ONE WAS HURT BEST OF LUCK WITH GETTING A SATISFACTORY RESULT IF KUBOTA READS THESE FORUMS THEY SHOULD SEE HOW PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT THIS AND TAKE NOTE TO TREAT YOU RIGHT.
