Has anybody tried the Hi Point handguns?

Maybe that's how the gun works, you pull it out and they die laughing.:D

Sound like this is the kind of gun you can beat someone with if you run out of bullets.

yup, after you are empty, it's a club.

Reminds me of another gun from the late 70's COP357

it was a stainless steel 4 shot 357 'derrenger', flip top , 4 bbls, rotating firing pin... looked like a semi auto.

it was very heavy.. I'm thinking nearly 2# and only 4 shots... The old joke was it was good for 5 badguys. 1-2-3-4 then you throw the gun at the 5th guy and brain him with it.

I have nothing to add on Hi Point specifically, but personally I like sort of heavy unless we are talking concealed carry. I have fallen in love with S&W I have to admit. Have a 9mm and 357 and am a fan. But I have had to pay premium for brand. No complaints and for the number of guns I want to possess I figure I don't want to go to cheap. Not sure I understand the cheap gun in the glove compartment concept though. Do understand budgets, and different lifestyles and respect that.

I think if I have to carry a wheel gun, it's going to have to be 357, and then it would have to be a 6" python, royal blue of course.

I will say that the handle on my .45 Hi Point is a hard plastic nightmare that I didn't leave me feeling confident in my ability to hold while firing. A rubber Pachmyr grip fixed that problem.

Never owned or shot a High Point but.... beauty is as beauty does. If they are dependable and affordable then somebody who cannot afford a S&W or Colt or Glock can purchase one.

The carbines have a good reputation. Supposedly very easy for someone who is small, or female, to shoot. Not much recoil.

As for ugly, my tractor gun is a Super Comanche single shot .410. Nothing uglier, nothing less ergonomic, but goes bang every time and serves it's purpose without a lot of money spent. As with the High Point if it is lost in the middle of a 40-acre field I will have lost $200 instead of $1000.

I have Hogue HandAll on my .45 (Ruger P97D) and one of the Kahrs. The Ruger isn't checkered as nicely as it's P345 successor and the Kahrs are a bit skinny for my long fingers.

Interestingly, most guests prefer the .45 cal Ruger (over 9mm BHP and P38) for plinking despite its fat-ish grip and the ladies' small hands. 9mm Hi-Point is a pussycat, recoil-wise, compared to the smaller Mak & CZ 9x18s. (BHP also has mag safety & IMO that is its worst feature)

So looks is the make-or-break qualification vs function? Hi-Points do handle ok (with full mags). One just can't shoot good groups with their eyes closed. You guys are making me laugh with the Hi-Point, and Mosin Nagant, owners/shooters who know what the the rest of you are missing out on performance-wise. (only the MN needs good ammo to shoot its best) tog

I too use Super Commanche for 'yard work' (starlings, cow birds, 'hosps'), never with .45 LC, usually with .410 & #6 shot. If it mattered, it IS better looking than any Hi-Point ...

your SCSS is merely basic, not specifically designed to be ugly.

Hi points are designed with 'ugly' right in the mix.. it's practically an ingredient... ;)

You'd think more of us would show our faces in avatars ...to get a perspective on what 'good looking' really means. :D

Yep love my 686plus... by the math here, I can take on 8 guys.
