Has anybody tried the Hi Point handguns?

I'm not trying to convince anyone to not buy a Hi point,

If you want a " good " gun that goes to the range at least once a week like mine do keep looking.

Something dont add up.

Not sure why you keep bringing up the accuracy either. Lots of posters posting real world reports about its good accuracy, yet you have never shot one and dogging on it.

I remember In the first grade there were always conversations like "my daddy can beat up your daddy..." And "my bicycle can go 50 mph."

I had forgotten all about those in my adult years.

I'm thinking hard about buying one to keep in the truck or on the Ranger or tractors when I'm on the farm. I'll keep my Glock in my night stand though for things that go "bump" in the night.

Well, my dad coulda beat up most dads. He was a big, bad, combat veteran from WWII and quite the imposing picture. 6'3", 235# He also carried a 1911 on occasion. But, he was a gentle giant and it took quite a bit to provoke him. The worst thing I ever hear him say was "gosh dang it!" but man, when he said it, it was scary!!!

I think my bike went 50 right after I jumped off it just before it went over a 90' escarpment. No GPS cell phones for data recording back then. :D

And another thing....

Quite a few comments about a gun bouncing around in glove boxes, tool boxes, under seats, etc......... good grief! Ain't that the slightest bit dangerous? No kids? Guess its a testament to the safety feature on this brand of gun!

I didn't mean to start a war! :D

The main reason I'm considering this (and will probably pull the trigger soon) is to have something different in the gun cabinet, and for when I want to make a little more noise than my .22's will on my short (75 yard) range. At that rane with a handgun, the weapon won't be the limiting factor. I also try to buy USA made firearms. Most of the comments here echo what I've read in shooting magazines.. bulky and ugly, but dependable. On the other hand I would expect someone who is named after a gun to be a little bit more picky. ;)

My impression is that this gun is like that certain fat girl in high school who was a lot of fun to be around... but you didn't want your friends to see you with her.

I have never shot a Hi point pistol, and like others have heard they are reliable, but ugly and bulky. I have shot the Carbine (a friends, just to be clear:)).

I have always been a connoisseur of the more expensive 1911's and a Glock is my low end utility pistol. But hey if it works, and by all accounts they do, and it is safe, and by all accounts they are, then why not? Each to his own. I have a 1911 that I have over $1800 in, and many are far more than that. They are not for everyone, and if the OP wants to have some fun with a more economical albeit less "sexy" handgun, so what?

I have friends that own Hi-Point pistols and carbines. They are reliable and fun to shoot. One good thing is the magazines are interchangeable between pistols and carbines in the same calibers. Check out these videos of how they try to destroy a Hi-Point 9mm. Spoiler... The last thing they try is a 3/8" bolt hammered down the barrel, filled it with gunpowder and sealed with a C clamp before fireing it.

yup.. they go bang when you pull the trigger, and if you do your part of the job, they hit the target.

they are heavy, the magazine is ridiculous.. that huge plastic plug must be there as an emergency flotation device or something.

They do have at least one other positive.. they narrowly bump the glock out of first place for ugliest gun design.... So glock shoud thank HP for that. ;)

for sure.. cheap date, does everything the expensive dates do, but you might get laughed at, and your arm might be a little more tired from holding 'her' up after some extended 'activity, due to her excess weight.
