Hi all,

I'm back (long story short I bought a Branson 2400H last year and sold it due to us deciding we weren't going to build our house last year. Now we have built our house so I'm back in the market for a compact tractor) and am looking for some suggestions.

I currently have a 2014 Ferris IS700z with only 18 hours that I'm looking to replace with a compact tractor. As mentioned, we just built a house, so a tractor will likely be very nice to have. Since I'll be selling/trading the Ferris zero turn, I need it to also be my main mower. I'll have approximately 2-2.5 acres of lawn to mow. I own 42 acres, of which around 36 acres is wooded, so I'm sure I'll find a lot of uses for the loader, etc.

Seems like there are some good rebates going on right now. I only talked to one dealer and can get a BX2370 for $13,400 and a BX1870 for $11,800 (before taxes on both). I'm currently in the process of communicating with Barlow Equipment to see how much of a better deal I could get on a new one.

There is a used 2013 BX1870 with a 60" MMM, loader and also has quick attach & forks. Machine has around 270 hours on it and is really clean. I can get it for $11,500.

Does $11.5k sound like a good deal? If I bought a new one, I probably wouldn't get the quick attach/forks, but obviously I'm sure I'd use them on the used machine if I bought it.

With that much total acreage you might want to keep the zero turn for mowing and get something larger. I think you'd outgrow the BX sooner than later.

I've thought about just getting a tractor to use separate from the zero turn, but I probably won't use it a lot in the woods. I've heard the BX's cut quality is pretty good and I'm probably closer to the 1.75-2 acre range for mowing actually.

So what does everyone think on the 2013 BX2370...decent, fair, good deal?

the BX2370 is a decent lawn mower but won't have near the FEL lift capacity as the Branson 2400H nor the ground clearance. For reference I had the BX1850 and traded it for the Branson 2400H due to wanting more FEL lift and ground engaging implement capabilities. The BX was far more nimble & manueverable than the 2400H.

Not sure on the prices but they sound reasonable for this area.

You can't beat a "Zero Turn" for mowing. If you need to compromise on one machine then the 2370 will be fine. Prices seem to be average. If you're not planning to do much with the FEL, then the 2013 seems like a good deal.

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. Hopefully I'll hear back from Barlow soon and if they can close the gap quite a bit between a new one vs. used, I may just go that route.
