Kubota M5400
Hi, First Post

I just bought a Kubota L2201 grey tractor with loader, Circa 1982?
It seems tight but the PTO continues to run when the tractor is on, exception it will stop with the clutch pedal depressed,
I,m concerned of potential injuries,
Any ideas on getting PTO to stop turning???
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a clutch driven PTO then. Either it's a single stage or dual stage clutch. Either way the clutch needs adjusting.

is the pto out of gear?

Adding to what farmer 2009 said, have you used the PTO or attached anything to it? If not, when you do, it just may "unstick" the clutch to the PTO - - might be worth trying, sorta, maybe.

:) Thanks guys, I read on another post that the hydraulics may be turning it without force, went out to the barn , started up the tractor and stopped it with a 2x4, i.e. no power or torque from it. So I think it's normal and Ok for now, Thanks

That's not normal nor okay. It maybe common. Is it an independent or clutch driven?

If independent you have a leak some where and that leak goes to the motor turning the PTO. So it's an Blown O-ring or a leaky spool. Both should be easy fixes.

Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level? Perhaps there is some "drag" occurring in the system. Perhaps even wrong fluid.

likely a combo of parasitic drag and worn or no pto brake.
