We are building a metal hay flat with 10 inch channel as the sills and 3 inch channel as runners every 24 inches. The top will be treated 2x8s. Question is can you still bolt this set up to the running gear or should we use a chain or cable one on opposite corners? If we bolt it I'll use a grade 8 on opposite corners. Wagon is 20 feet.

What do toy mean chain or cable? ? Only thing I have ever heard of is bolting. Just make sure you have heavy enough running gear.

Have you tought about making it a trailer? ?

Not sure what you mean as well? My neighbor cut and baled a field for me a few days ago. He round baled some and square bales some for me. He came by today to pick up his round bales with a homemade wagon. Not having a loader, he used a 3pt bale spear. I stood by the home built wagon while he ran back and forth. After it was all said and done, we stopped to chat.

His wagon, which he had not built was to high. He had to park it in a swale to load it. Just one of those situations where you home build something but would do it differently the next time I guess. He also said that this wagon was not wide enough for his baler that makes 5 1/2 foot wide rolls. I suggested adjustable cross members where you could pull a pin and slide out your crossmembers to accomadate two wide bales.

Nothing like a experiance and a good imagination to home build a better rig.

The running gear is rated at 8 tons. I just want to make sure it has enough to flex if it needs too.

Our wagons are bolted on all 4 corners with grade 5 bolts. Thats stronger than the wood and I doubt it will be a problem.
