Yes, we need pictures. I always figure my dually w/o trailer cost me about $1 /mile, even with the declining cost of diesel.

So we have to know what kind of mower is worth a 2000 mile 48hr round-trip?

I had bought a Toro 3500d mower. Problem was that I had already sold my old mower so the grass was approaching knee high.

I bet this is right. Figure 15 mpg at $2.50 per gallon. That's $.17 per mile.

Tires are $1500 a set for a dually. Figure 40,000 miles per set. That is $.04 per mile.

Oil change is $70 if you do it yourself every 5,000 miles. That's $.02 per mile.

Insurance is about $1200 a year. 15,000 miles a year. That's $.08 per mile.

You see where this is going.

Yeah, you're up to .31 per mile. Not a dollar. Where's the other .69? Just curious. Our car costs as around a quarter a mile, our Suburban is closer to .40.

I don't know. It still seems like a lot. Maybe its because we buy used vehicles and drive them for at least 10 years. I haven't worked up our numbers for probably 5 years. I think I had a pretty good discussion with Bird about it at least that long ago. He's one to keep numbers on that sort of thing. I'd hope he'd pop in on this discussion.
