Kioti 2385 boom cylinder. I guess I pressed the relief valve one too many times while removing stumps. The boom cylinder is easy to remove and replace. $25 weld at a local machine shop, and back in business.

Good to hear it was a simple repair. Sucks because the welds should have been better in the first place.

That is an interesting break.. I haven't seen one like that before. Usually see cold MIG welds where one side or other of the parent metal did not fuse with the weld puddle. But in this case it appears to me the actual weld bead broke in the middle and the penetration with the parent metals held... That is interesting. I need someone with some real weld experience to tell me what happened here.

My rookie look at this is that the weld did not bond properly to one piece, as evidenced by the still shaped weld material, with no sign of stress or break. Looks like it just fell apart. Must have been a bad weld that never properly bonded.

Looks to me like the bead was too small, not enough cross-section to keep the loading below the yield stress. Maybe a little cold because it didn't wet out to the inside but formed a notch that can be seen on the far side. It takes a LOT of stress to fail from an inside notch like that.
