I had an incident in the cab on my New Holland TD70. I was ploughing when something kicked up and shattered the back window. The glass completely shattered into a million pieces. Guess they don't use safety glass in cabins.

I think (could be wrong)...that that is what they call "safety glass"...as compared to laminated (windshield) glass...I think the theory is no large shards...no large lacerations...i.e., "safe"...

Correct. That is tempered (safety) glass. If you'll look at some of your remaining glass sections, Usually in a corner, you will find little engraved labels indicating this and the manufacturer/temperer.

you can get a very light window film/tint or some that is almost clear ( I have it bookmarked but can't remember off my head the name of it). It was designed to be used windshields with about 97/98% light transmittance. My point is, look into something like this for your replacement and if it happens again 1. it could stop the object more because it has to go through the film as well and 2. more glass pieces will stick to it hopefully making cleanup easier. In addition, it usually keeps glass from flying, especially form impacts.

Sounds like the glass did what it was supposed too. But that must have been quite shock to suddenly have it vaporize!

I hope to be building a cab this winter or early spring. Even having the glass in the rear, I plan to transfer the metal grill that's currently mounted between my ROPS. I've had lots of things hit that grill while mowing. Usually with quite a BANG. I wish I had one on the dozer too. I've had branches on the ground get caught in the tracks, flip up and hit me in the back of the head. :confused2:

Neighborhood had a string of break ins and the criminals used a small spring center punch smaller than a pencil... one tick with the punch and the tempered patio glass door was gone... like 98% gone.

At my house they tried the same tactic... only I still have the original 1960 plate glass patio door and it did not work... have maybe a dozen divots in the glass... nothing broke or shattered...

You don't say.....LOL. Yes there are films that do all that. It's what I have done for a living for 30 years

Many years ago I scored some old patio doors, hoping to make aquariums out of them. Didn't know about that little engraved label in the corner. After much measuring and calculation we tried to make our first cut....

Boy, the look on your face must have been something when you applied the glass cutter and your workpiece dissolved!
